I think a lot of it is down to Jess not having a junior career. Largely due to covid. So she kind of sprung from nowhere. An American or Russian gymnast capable of individual world medals has usually been closely followed by the gymternet for a few years.

That doesn’t make sense. She was already a senior when COVID started. Her twin, Jennifer, competed at the 2020 American Cup, right?

Doug is taking a break from social media and decided to concentrate on work. He deleted his account so as to avoid temptation. He knows he is missed and might return at some point. But for now is content with more free time.
Thanks for letting us know. He is indeed missed on many levels I think. I for one hope he comes back.

Big what if… but is Korea finishes 13-15th and gets the +1, will that be in addition to Yeo, the likely vault qualifier, and Lee, the AA qualifier?
Yes. Each non team country can qualify 3 athletes.

You’re right, I don’t know why I thought that. I’d forgotten she’d been to junior worlds too

COVID fucked with our memories big time.

This time 3 years ago I had a huge headache of 97 students without devices and 108 students with broken devices and needing a replacement. We had 200 students that missed September-early November school days because the families opted virtual and had no working device or no internet at home.

The gymternet loooooves seeing people fulfill previously unfulfilled potential. We also love us a gymnast with longevity.

Gad doesn’t tick the first box, and hasn’t been around long enough to tick the second.

Yeah, I think gymnastics and figure skating fans really appreciate longevity. They hate it when someone has success and doesn’t stick around, but it’s like Jessica is on track for her second Olympics, so it’s annoying.

No, there is definitely something far more specific with her.

I’m not her biggest fan personally but I don’t understand the hate she receives online

I remember people being so pissed that Carly retired so young after Athens. Like, enough that they were still pissed about it in Beijing.

Yeah it wasn’t Covid, just Jess didn’t really have any notable results as a junior. And then didn’t compete in 2020, which was Covid. So the first time most people (Americans) heard of the other Gadirova twin wasn’t until the lead up to the Tokyo Olympics.

I wonder with the current NCAA rules if she would have stuck around.

I thought she retired because her back was shot. Did she even do NCAA?
