That being said, he should probably still be ok for Paris? He still has irons in the fire with floor and maybe parallel bars.

Yes, and the world cup series too. But preferable to get it all sorted this year. Saves having to peak multiple times in a short period.

Oh, for sure, but if he qualifies on floor here then he ONLY qualifies on floor, right?

He’s an AAer and can medal — even win — on 3 events. So I want to see him compete all those events in Paris.

That’s a relief. I could have sworn that was one of the rule changes made for this cycle.

Worlds and Olympics are inconsistent on this point for 2022-4 for some reason. Apparatus qualifiers to worlds can only do their event but apparatus qualifiers to Paris can do AA. 🤷‍♀️

Worlds is trying to cut everything they can to cram prelims into three days. Just adding 30 minutes more and you’ll have athletes competing past 11pm. Monday’s schedule is already pushing it. France will be on FX and China will be ending on BB at 10:30 at night.

Olympics has less teams/athletes (and less apparatus qualifiers), so the handful of individuals doing AA instead of just their event doesn’t extend the competition in a significant way.

I don’t know why they start the first morning session at 10:15 except that maybe they think they’d get no crowd if it started at 8:15. If they expect certain teams to compete past 10pm, I don’t see why making others start at 8:30am would be so egregious.

In 2006 Italy were in the first subdivision that started at 1000. I remember a coach (was it Casella then?) complaining that Ferrari doing a double-double in warm ups at 0800 wasn’t safe. If the competition starts at 0830 you’d have gymnasts warming up at stupid o’clock.

I don’t think either extreme is good for anyone.

It was but not for the Olympics. I think it’s to do with scheduling and space.

Is there a reason they can’t have more teams or individuals per sub? I guess it would just extend the length of the subs instead, with the same outcome though.

Cost. They struggle to find hosts for worlds due to the costs involved.

Yeah. I guess this is the most effective way, but it just drags on so long!

I’m pretty sure I had at least one gymnastics meet in high school start at 9:00 am, so I don’t think it would be a big deal.

Has anyone found what the actual deal was? What if Hashimoto had placed 25th or something?

They really could eliminate a subdivision by adding one gymnast to each rotation. Like the USA could rotate and have an individual athlete with them.
There are some subdivisions with just two gymnasts in the rotation.

Last Worlds I swore there was a rotation with just one athlete in it.
