Lee Yunseo is the highest placed Korean AAer if they don’t qualify as a team.

Caitlin Rooskrantz was the best South African with a 50.099, though first-year senior Caleigh Anders was less than a point behind.

Karla Navas from Panama scored 50.298, which is less than Hillary Heron, so…

If Panama counted as a team they’d be ahead of Taiwan, just behind South Africa.

Gadirova. I was one of those who couldn’t get over her beam score last year. With that said, she seems to have a better understanding than everyone else when it comes to the code in terms of artistry deductions. Yes, artistry is of course subjective, but this code seems to want to define places to get deductions, and she seems to check the boxes. With that said, artistry has always been more than can you smile during a floor routine. I loved Kochetkova’s stone faced routines.

Why do I think she’s unliked? I believe most of her success was “home meets” and that’s going to cause the home scoring thoughts. I also think it’s taken a long time for British gymnastics to be respected on the women’s side, and sometimes being her being British I think is part of the problem. Her biggest “sin” right now, she may win floor finals next week against an American — how dare she.

She is great in person but I don’t question her scores or placement in Liverpool. May the best score win Finals.

Without Simone, it makes USA goes from untouchable to back in the mix
When They are Counting Simone scores is a complete different team. Just remember what happened Tokyo TF

Yes, obviously with Simone it’s not the same situation. I also think if GB lose a key player they are in trouble which is not the case for the USA or even Italy, but it’s a good sign

The scores in general are MUCH higher than what we saw in Liverpool. E scores have gone WAY up.
Beam for example had 14 scores between 13.0-13.900 in qualifications in Liverpool.
There are already 12 scores above 13.00 on beam, with 7 subdivisions to go. Not to mention 3 of those are 14.0+

The US won by over 3 points last year WITHOUT Simone.

The Tokyo team finals can’t be compared because it was a completely different judging pen that has not been reproduced since.

One thing about Jess is that most gymnasts outside the traditional powerhouses serve a fair bit of time first, before getting that level of success. They’re often unlucky with scores and/or injuries. We’re used to Americans, Russians and Chinese gymnasts going straight to the podium. Not so much Brits. The more familiar model is people like Tweddle, Andrade, Murukami and Becky Downie breaking all our hearts first, sometimes repeatedly, and then when they finally get their due there’s a communal outpouring of relief.

Jess on the other hand has come straight out and been recognised by international judges. There’s been no doing this the hard way. That’s a much less familiar model. There are exceptions of course, like Ferrari. But maybe not enough for everyone to get their heads round it.

Now that I think about it, the Jess hate seems to be all Americans. European fans are more used to GB winning medals, especially since the demise of Romania. GB has consistently been the 2nd or 3rd best country at euros.

Russian gym fans typically hate British gymnasts, but she’s quite popular here.

That’s a really good argument ArnoldRimmer, I think you’re right.

Her Moors looked brilliant today. I don’t like a Moors and Chuso composition-wise though. If you can do the former you can do the latter (unless you’re Skinner). It’s by far not the only floor routine guilty of this though.

Gutted for Kinsella but at this point not surprised 🥺 Shame that Ondine still doesn’t seem to have enough stamina for her floor double. I like her new routine though and I expected her beam to be a bit higher. 8 years after we were debating if Tinkler or Ellie Downie would be the first British Amanar and we finally had Evans try one in competition. First Cheng from Jessica today as well 😍

I felt very privileged to be watching Biles live again. Got a bit teary watching her floor actually. She seemed to be really in to it and I didn’t think I’d get to see her in person again after Stuttgart. Amazing to see the YDP live, instant standing ovation for me. Really sad for Blakely. I was on the EF redemption train for her.

Edited to correct my dum Cheng mistake

Re: Jess
I just watched her floor and I don’t get it. I really don’t get it. What is so artistic about her floor routine? It is 90% or more arm waving. It’s a snooze fest with landing mistakes like everyone else. Great gymnast, who’s consistent, but I never got the love for her on floor. Never.

Oh, the Italy fans were not happy with her winning floor at Euros last year over Maggio, and Romania fans started being nasty about Kinsella beating Voinea in floor finals this year lol
