The close up with Jade showed she has sunken eyes, which is a sign of dehydration and not enough sleep.
Sounds like she and Brian both got the stomach flu or food posioning
Lots of illnesses can affect your ability to eat and drink (she says with a raw and swollen throat and swollen lymph nodes). Hopefully it stays with just them and they're both in the mend.

I'm still thinking worst case scenario with Simone having and injury and Jade being too ill to go and the last 3 left standing to bear the brunt. Let's hope those don't play out. They can withstand no Jade on floor, but they need decent Simone.
Fair, but that's a fairly extreme scenario. They have enough cushion that they could play it safe, water down a bit and still win. Which is an incredible luxury to have.

I feel like the main thing for them is to not get too into their heads about needing to go balls to the wall with difficulty/be perfect.

Yes, it felt like an anxious meet today, but at the end of the day, they won team and on the individual side, if today was the final they’d have 8 medals and a fourth place out of 10 opportunities. Plus, 3 of the top 4 AAs with their #2 and #3 AAers at home. It’s hard to ask more; they may have looked nervy but by the standard of this meet they more than managed it.

Yeah, it's easy to forget that this is mostly a B team, if like me you think that Jones, Blakely, and DiCello would have likely made it (although I prefer Chiles to DiCello). Blakely's vaults are stronger than Carey's, and this team construction would have likely sidelined Lee from the AA to a specialist role.

Using today's scores, a team of Hezly, Jordan, and Suni would have been pretty competitive.

If Hezly had gotten 14.1 on vault (doable) and 13.7 on floor (tough, but possible), they would have "medaled".

I miss the Russian gymnasts.
I miss Angelina but I think the others from the last cycle have been on the strugglebus.

Watching the NBC broadcast and the leotard looks like a discoball on the floor. The negative stars look pretty cool too. But I don't need to see Simone's tentative achillies problems again--I'm still in recovery from Trials.

And I know that fluff pieces are an NBC tradition but man, more gymnastics, less yakkity.

First of all, I hope I am posting in the right thread. Mods, you may move my post to another thread if you have to.

Here is my commentary on the USA women on BB.

Jordan Chiles: Her balance on BB was so-so, and she was overscored.

Hezly Rivera: Her balance was so-so, had a small fall. Was not overscored.

Suni Lee: Did better than Chiles and Rivera. Balance was better but not perfect.

Simone Biles: The best performance on BB. Near perfect balance.

I am no gymn judge, but I am doing my best.

I am drinking a Corona beer whilst watching gymnastics on the Olympics.

I'm (re)watching the NBC primetime coverage so I can hear the commentary. They're definitely shining a very positive light on Team USA's performance, and really emphasizing the parts where they're smiling and dancing together. Watching it live this morning there was palpable nerves and stress and uncertainty, but that's not the vibe the announcers have been giving off in Primetime.

Yeah, hopefully the ladies can see the scores, realize it wasn't as dire as it felt in the moment and loosen up for finals. And hopefully jade can bundle up in a blanket and sip some soup to get her energy up and kick the cold's butt. But, I would definitely ask her if she wants to sit out FX.

Here is my commentary on the USA women on FX.

Suni Lee: Did well. Tumbling could have been a bit better. Went slightly oob.

Jordan Chiles: Better tumbling. Better overall.

Jade Carey: Good tumbling, but went badly oob.

Simone Biles: Very good overall. One landing could have been better. Slightly oob. Slightly overscored.

I am no gymn judge, but I did my best.

I am drinking another Corona beer.

That was a terrifying baulk for Jade. She did the same in Podium training.

Running on absolute fumes. Y'know, it really wouldn't be a bad thing to put Hezly up on floor in the team final. Give them all a fucking break.
With her music?

I hope Jade feels better and can nail floor in TF!

Here is my commentary on the USA women on VT and UB.

They all did excellent !
