Here is Wong’s 2.5 punch attempts from last year:

Classics:

Worlds PT:

at 2021 Worlds EF:

I’m looking for other 2.5 + 1.0 attempts on floor from last year/Worlds PT but I can’t find any. Regardless, it looks like it was an inconsistent combo for her last year

Roberson’s beam is still a mystery to me. ff that’s an 8.0 E score. How in the hell did Suni only get .3 higher for execution?
Roberson at 8.0 should mean Suni is going above 9.0 in E score.

Can’t tell me there is only .3 difference between the two sets.

Execution scores are obviously not separating adequate from good from great.

I thought there would be a reset at some point. IIRC Winter Cup did separate them more.

it was mildly amusing to listen to John Rothelisberger complain about inadequate execution separation during the first session.

Simone was on my radar at 2012 Nationals and I remember thinking she would be on major teams as at least a VT/FX specialist, but I thought that if she got her game together she would be the top AA junior
She was on my radar back then too. I thought if she could just get her nerves and her power under control she would be something we had not seen before in the sport.

All the talk about Roberson, but honestly I am more impressed with Kaliya Lincoln.
She’s flown in under radar and she could seriously be in contention for Paris with one more year. Floor is right up there and tied Roberson for 2nd. Her DTY, while a bit scrappy has plenty of power and potentially Amanarable.

I was super impressed by her as a junior last quad, I’m glad she’s finally healthy!

Hopefully she has a second vault in the pipeline. I could see that being used as a tiebreaker between her, Carey, and Roberson unless she has a strong UB routine in her back pocket.

She was the World AA champion the next year lol. She was on a lot of radars! But yes, her competition mindset was still untested.

Was she though? She got 14th at 2011 US Junior Championships and, despite a massive DTY, she was not added to the National Team. It’s my understanding most people learned of her from 2012 US Championships or afterwards, but perhaps a lot of folks were watching the Alamo and WOGA Classics

She was 3rd at junior nationals and was one of the top prospects going into the meet and had competed an Amanar since the beginning of the year. She was on everyone’s radar

Yes. She was on everyone’s radar from early 2012. She was also 3rd at American classic that year. Prior to 2012, she was on no one’s radar. It’s a shame we lost the old board or we’d have the actual conversations we were having at the time.

I remember not being impressed at the 2013 American Cup in Worcester.

Biles had the difficulty and talent, but I didn’t think she had the mental capacity/confidence to become the gymnast she ended up becoming. I thought she might become another Atler or Uzelac.

There was definitely potential for her to be a headcase kind of gymnast, but she proved me wrong clearly.

I remember her name being bandied about a few times in 2012 but it was pretty much just this Biles kid is strong on vault, she’ll be the next big VT specialist next quad.

Not really that much time spent discussing juniors in general during Olympic years.
