I just can’t with this routine. It sparks no interest in me. I much prefer her old one. Much!

Did you see this. there was water dripping on the beam. Unacceptable

Is it just me or does this ending pose look like a fish on dry land with pretty hands. I wonder what went through the choreographers mind while coming up with this.

I appreciate that there was some effort to do something with the entrance to turns, but I’m not sure I liked it.

You had me laughing before I even clicked the play button.
As far as the routine, it is a BIG NO for me. It couldn’t keep my attention for more than 10 seconds…snooze fest.
Yeah, the ending pose was very unfortunate.

BRA only lost to Canada by a point. They easily lost 2.0-2.5 by Saraiva’s routines being replaced with Pedro.
Or lost in one of their falls that they counted.
Andrade and Soares both came off beam.

@Doug1233 Hello friend!

I’ve gone through and added up the deductions for the amazingly showstopping routine of Fukasawa Kokoro. My execution score is 4.1 – like I was saying earlier, I think you probably took a bunch of form errors on her empty swings, when that’s not how the rules work. Empty swings just get the 0.5 off and nothing else.

I’m sure you’re right! It’s much easier to score a challenging routine like that, after the fact, with the ability to use a pause button and a replay function.

Fun with scores!

Not surprisingly, the US and GB led the way in both difficulty and execution, finishing 1-2 in those categories. Canada was 8th in D scores but 3rd in D, finishing behind GB by .1 and nearly 2.0 clear of Brazil.

Japan, despite bars, still finished 6th in execution thanks to strong scores elsewhere.

China was 3rd in difficulty but 7th in execution. D scores were 8th on vault, 1st on bars and beam, and 6th on floor. E scores were 7th on vault, 4th on bars, and 8th on beam and floor.

Italy won E scores on vault and beam, while finishing 7th on bars and floor.

The US won bars execution, while GB won floor.

Right, but I said in real time just from doing a headcount it should be close to that. Generally I would expect less deductions to be taken in a real time first look, rather taking too many. Throwing deductions left and right on a whim to slam someone with over a point more than they deserve can skew things in a competition badly.

I think taking too many deductions (and outright taking phantom deductions) is an affliction that’s become more prevalent in judging, as they are scared of being outside what they think will be the norm, and pre-judge competitors based upon what they think is expected of them (which also leads to overly lenient judging at times for the competitors lucky enough to be considered “favorites”). Reputation judging has always existed but the degree of difference in deductions has generally become much wider.

This type of data is relevant and I do wonder if we will see some teams go Canada’s route. They didn’t have the difficulty, but they were clean and consistent.

I’m glad the three teams with the highest Execution totals won medals. Much rather see lower valued skills done correctly than high valued but ugly skills.

Interesting that the E-score finishes were almost 100% accurate for the overall results. Only difference is swapping China and Japan.

I’m going to pull top 12 from prelims and see if that continues to hold true.
