I’m so happy we have a thread for this!
You Are Welcome Schitts Creek GIF by CBC

America’s delegation were in the stands for the final day of event finals. I’m assuming other countries’ rhythmic gymnasts were too. Podium training is today. Get hype!

Oy. Watching the first rotation. Alex Aguigu just finished ball. Clean, but she seems sluggish.

It’s a little sad seeing the gymnasts competing in an arena so empty.

And no artistic gymnasts or trampolinists to watch and cheer on, as they had to travel back home now that both events are over.

I mean, I wouldn’t say that Rhythmic gymnastics is incompatible with human rights, but rhythmic gymnastics is incompatible with human rights.

Why is nude mesh such a trend down the sides of the torso? It’s distracting even though I love the routines.

Why are 10lb sparkle explosion costumes, that weird marching walk, and shellacked hair requirements (possibly unstated)? Could someone even win without crystals and flesh mesh and their hair in something other than a top-of-the-head bun?

Really hoping and praying for the Ashram upset of the twins.
Would love to finally see a non-Russian all around winner.
It would be huge for Israeli gymnastics with the RG AA winner and MAG FX winner.

Also, why are ribbon scores lower than the other three apparatuses?
It’s really hard to keep the ribbon constantly moving and afloat.
The other 4 are much easier (though no rope anymore since 2011 IIRC as it was discontinued).

I mean, Azerbaijan is literally wearing Caslavska’s 1964 leotard

…but did they win/qualify while wearing it?

I love Uzbekistan’s Sailor Moon routine with five balls.

Also, love Russia’s costume change.

I’ve really enjoyed watching rhythmic so far, but I know truly nothing about it.

I can’t believe how jam-packed the routines are, especially the individuals. I would have expected a lot more “empty” choreography, but it seems like they do element after element basically the whole time.

I’m surprised because I thought I remembered Alina Kabaeva saying something in that rhythmic documentary about how they lowered the difficulty level after she competed (but maybe I’m remembering wrong). I’ll have to go back and watch some older routines to see if I see a difference.
