I had fun thinking up a conspiracy theory: The rhythmic judges have realized that FIG really wants parkour in the Olympics but the IOC isn’t going to give any more athlete spots. They don’t want to judge parkour and figured if someone other than Russia finally won a Rhythmic gold, then maybe they couldn’t be left jobless for the next olympics. They didn’t want the “Team X always wins” complaints that softball got and so they made sure there was someone different on the top step this time.
