Yeah. If she has to change her BB dismount to a double pike or her UB to a double lay (we think she can do one, right?) that is better than having to rejig a whole routine.

Risks vs rewards. I don’t think she should try to compete. But I don’t know everything and I’m not privy to what’s going on.

It’s not that I don’t believe that Simone has this Twisties condition, it’s just that I’ve been involved in gymnastics my whole life and have never seen an elite gymnast withdraw from any sort of competition because of it. In fact, I’ve never heard this terminology used for a mental block before this week.

What makes Simone different from all other gymnasts, of course, is her astonishing skill level. This makes me wonder if Simone’s brain has just become overloaded by her insane level of difficulty. In hindsight, maybe it was a huge mistake to have her do the yurchenko double pike. Just because she can physically do skills doesn’t necessarily mean she should be competing them. She repeatedly mentions finding gymnastics scary. Very rarely do elite gymnasts say this. This is another indicator that maybe she should have scaled back her difficulty. NBC would constantly mention that Simone was trying to be much better than she was at the Rio Olympics. But why? Why was there not more emphasis on giving her routines that made her feel less nervous and scared?

Also, if you’re forced to withdraw in the middle of the Olympics because of the twisties, wouldn’t that make an athlete feel absolutely devastated? But Simone didn’t look too bothered by the fact that she had to leave her teammates in the middle of the competition. She just abruptly left the floor and didn’t look upset or flustered. And then she spoke to the press after the event, and I don’t believe she even mentioned the twisties, she just talked about mental health. Yet she was mentally healthy enough to go right back on the floor and jump up and down and cheer for her teammates throughout the competition. No wonder people are bashing her and accusing her of quitting and giving up- that’s exactly what it looked like. What was USAG thinking sending her to that press conference?

I think any gymnast would get lost in the air if they were opening up on their skills too early. You have to stay fully committed to the skill you’re doing. It seems like she’s just opening up way too early on everything. Why don’t they have her doing basics and drills in training to rebuild her confidence instead of having her chuck double doubles off bars into the pit and hoping she rotates? Why not keep it simpler with a full twisting double like she used to do?

This whole thing just feels incredibly strange, and it’s exacerbated by the fact that USAG has said absolutely nothing about it and hasn’t attempted to shield Simone from any of it. When I don’t feel well, one thing that helps me get over it is to stop concentrating on how I don’t feel well-- I try to think about being healthy instead. It seems very counterproductive for Simone to be sitting on Instagram telling people to ask her questions about the twisties. Posting videos of herself bailing on skills and defending herself on social media against naysayers doesn’t seem mentally healthy at all. I’m just confused by how Simone and everyone involved has been handling this situation.

She might want the tf vault to not be her last routine at this meet? (Hypothetically speaking since I don’t really know what she wants.)

The crazy people on Twitter would be furious but that’s their problem.

Remember Classics 2018? She was having multiple meltdowns on social media. The entire time I was like “maybe you should focus on your gymnastics and not having a hissy fit over how some 16 and 17 year olds don’t like you? You’re the greatest gymnast ever, stop worrying about Morgan Hurd!” She seems to enjoy the drama–or perhaps is incapable of setting strong boundaries on her social media usage.

I’ve said this before, but she’s been horribly mismanaged since she came back, in every aspect.

Okay- so Twitter is going a bit crazy. It’s being reported (Insider Mag) that Simone was unable to take her ADHD medicine. Is this going to be debunked. Apparently all stimulant medications are banned in Japan. I have seen the document where it states the exemption protocols. But this is a strange narrative to emerge.

yeah, but Japan doesn’t allow ADHD medications so the IOC had an agreement with Japan for those athletes who have waivers could bring them to Japan.

They just announced Simone is out of the VT and UB finals. Bb and FX still possible.

I’ve been working as a psychiatric nurse for the past 30 years. I would definitely class what Simone is suffering from as a psychological problem which by definition is s mental health problem.
Can you explain to us exactly how twisties constitute a psychological problem?

MyKayla Skinner is going to replace her for VT. Who is the replacement for UB?
