I don’t think all the hype last time did Simone any favors. I hope she continues to play it quiet. Quietly!? Anyhow, I hope she just does a specialist role for now.

Those pretty leotards fooled people into thinking she wasn’t breaking a sweat didn’t they.

I wonder if Simone is going to do AA or focus on being a specialist. I hope she’ll bust out the Yurchenko double pike again.

100% agree. The hype she actively encouraged around herself, going so far as wearing leos that had “GOAT” embroidered Swarovskied (per @MaryClare) on them, was not good.

I really wonder what she’s doing for elements right now. Even a watered-down Biles is a contender, and I don’t think anyone should expect 2023 US Classic to be where she’s at full strength.

You want me to go on yet another rant about how Simone’s advisors utterly failed her leading up to Tokyo, don’t you?

Well, you do great rants, Robin. ❤️

LOL

I think it would be an appropriate part of our collective pre Classic preparation now Simone’s competing. We need to get back in the swing!

Do it Robin! Do it for us all!

Y’all, I will absolutely losing my everliving fucking mind if she shows up with a goat on her leo.

Genuinely, I hope she’s happy this time around, and doing it for herself because she wants to. Not because she feels like she has to, or because she feels like she has to go through with it because of sponsors. Watching her at trials was awful. That was a woman who wanted to be anywhere except doing gymnastics.

Yeah she seemed constantly on the verge of tears when she had a slight little miss on anything. So much pressure.

The pressure was definitely awful, but are we forgetting the other shit that Biles was dealing with last quad? She had the abuse stuff, and USAG’s garbage responses, and she spoke a lot about being in pain. And then she had to push through that extra year because of the Olympic delay. I know she spoke of how the pressure affected her in Tokyo, but I can’t imagine that the cumulative impacts of the other stuff didn’t help push her towards the edge.

TBH, I had expected that Biles would have announced her comeback with more fanfare (and was side eyeing Mr. Sacramone for stealing her thunder), but in retrospect this seems pretty naive of me. I’m not going to pretend to know what her goals or priorities are at this point, but it’s not hard to imagine that Tokyo will have a pretty strong influence on where she takes her career from here.

Just realized.

Simone’s first Worlds was in Antwerp and a decade ago.
Hopefully she will be going back to Antwerp.
She needs one more (world or Olympic) medal to untie Larisa Latynina for most decorated gymnast of all time.

Since this is currently being discussed in several different threads, I’m not sure if this specific press release from USAG has been posted already, but I thought it was interesting that this paragraph was included:
Registration for U.S. Classic closed this week and is required to compete at the U.S. Classic, but it does not guarantee participation. Senior women qualify by being 2022 World Championships participants, posting a qualifying score, or petitioning to compete. Late petitions to compete also may be accepted by the USA Gymnastics Athlete Selection Committee. The Senior men’s field is open to all men’s Elite athletes.
