Probably not a popular opinion, but I agree. This is part of their job. Every job has its shitty moments. It’s a couple of minutes and then you can go. And as someone here said: if you want more coverage, you have to show up at least. With one athlete, if necessary.

But they have been showing up, to every interview at every Worlds/Nationals/WorldCup whatever up until this competition. And it hasn’t made a single lick of difference in promoting men’s gymnastics.

Brett McClure did stay and give interviews in the mixed zone and honestly that’s the main person to be asking questions to anyway. They can ask if they’re going to think about changing the selection process or bonus system going forward. None of the athletes can answer that, the most they can say is “blah blah disappointed but hope to come back strong for finals/next year/whatever.”

IG2 says every other team stayed for interviews. As of last night they had tweeted one quote from Zhang Boheng, one quote from Brett McClure, and then this tweet complaining that US MAG didn’t talk to them. Nothing from Japan or Great Britain, and no videos of anything posted on their website, nothing had been updated from the Women’s Team Final. Was hearing Brody Malone say “We tried our best but it just wasn’t our night” supposed to open the flood gates of MAG coverage?
