I prefer Wong to DiCello, but I have to think Kayla has the edge. If she can hit the first event of her first Worlds with a surprise no-warmup situation, there is nothing that is going to take her off her stride.

Full twist off? That’s too much even for doug. I hope that is at least a double in finals…

Hatakeda’s 13.933 on bars helps Becky’s challenge to get into the UB final.

Realistically as Becky is currently in 6th, there’s only 2 Russians and Andrade who can better 14.00? And Russia’s gonna Russia at some point!

Pauline Schafer is into 2nd on beam with 13.733, so she’s safely into the EF. Wouldn’t have thought anyone else competing in this sub will be top 8 on anything.

I must say, even in these straitened circumstances the beam final lineup is looking to be pretty good. At the moment the top 8 is Luo Rui, Schafer, Wong, Ashikawa, Di Cello, Murukami, Downie and Iorio. I would assume the last 2-3 are going to miss out with Russia and Andrade still to come. That wouldn’t be a bad top 8 at all! Especially in the context of only one of the Chinese hitting.

France don’t seem to be having a good round at all. As well as this, Devillard splatted the rudi and staggered the DTY. She’s in 7th now with Andrade and Melnikova still to come, so no final for her. And the silver was wide open. The vaults she did in PT could’ve done it. What a shame.

She’s now doing floor so everything must be OK

That was awful, and we sure did not need 4 replays. Hope she is okay, I would not have let her continue.

With only 11 AAers to go, everybody up til Fenton is in the AA final so far (first 13).
I love that Elze Geurts is still in first place on vault! Talk about a dream debute at 26 years old. Bummed about Devillard though; she belongs in that final as well.

Gutted for Devillard and Qi Qi, but as things stand vault is looking to be a really interesting final and probably multiple famous firsts. Of those still to come, Andrade and Melnikova are locks and Kysselef should probably make it too. I think Taman is likely safe, which would make her the first African WAG finalist ever at worlds afaik? We may also have the first Israeli woman too, as Netzer is in 5th.

And it’s also going to be a pretty old final too! D’Amato is through and she’s 18, probably Bacskay too, but everyone else who’s likely to be there is in their 20s. I haven’t checked but I could well believe it’s going to be the EF with the oldest average age in the post Korbut era.

I need to start judging. But my first thoughts are HOLY E SCORES on floor. Looks like they’ve been told to loosen up the deductions.

Which sucks, they should not be chopping snd changing execution pens like this. A coach could have legitimately downgraded a gymnasts routine on the basis of a harsher pen, which now was not even used.

I haven’t even seen the routines but there’s just no way DiCello gets an 8.4 E and Wong gets an 8.3 E on floor with a Tokyo pen.

This was my thought. I’m also sceptical that eMjae would’ve got an 8.2 on bars without the fall, with anything approaching a Tokyo pen. I wonder if Russia will suffer because of the loosening up.
