What’s the general view from USAG re: Simone’s tour?

Is it typically a money maker for USAG?

Yes. USAG used to make a huge amount of money from the post olympic tour. Not just the ticket and merchandise sales but it was always sponsored too. I’d imagine they aren’t happy but there’s nothing they can do

Right. But after the Nassar scandal they would have lost sponsorship. Still would have been a money maker for them I believe.

USAG never planned to do a tour (even pre-COVID). Simone only formed hers when she learned of this.

I know Sam (?) or one of the other male gymnasts commented a few years ago how they were disappointed that it was only going to be WAG but since USAG wasn’t doing it, it wasn’t like Simone ran them out of town–they weren’t going to get a chance anyway so Simone’s tour really was not an insult to them. Does Japan do gymnastics tours/shows like they do figure skating shows? If so, the US gymnasts should work on sucking up to the Japanese peeps to get an invite.

I guess if the other disciplines want a tour, they need to get USAG to do it or set up their own. Or at least make sure that USAG is planning one for after Paris since this quint is a wash.

It is just WAG at the Gold Tour, because it is not just about gymnastics, there is a political aspect to it as well. Which is totally fine, but explains why MAG was not invited.

Charlotte can do a trampoline tour if she wants to.

It was Horton who complained of no MAG participation on the tour. Which is rich, considering some of the (alleged) behavior of his teammates on previous tours…

Charlotte Drury’s rant is something else. Trampoline is bottom of the barrel in terms of a draw, probably beneath rhythmic. And that’s setting aside the tour being a privilege, not a right, for anyone to take part. She isn’t suddenly part of Simone’s inner circle because she cheered for her in the stands during beam finals.

Its the Met Gala. Crazy stupid outfits are kinda a requirement.

I somewhat understand where Charlotte is coming from. It was always going to be dicey if USAG could secure a tour sponsor, but the second Simone announced her tour, a USAG was dead in the water. And one of the consequences of that is non-WAG gymnasts no longer had one of the few avenues available for them to make money.

I do find it curious that it is only WAG. Women only, sure. But to the exclusion of non-WAG? Didn’t have to be that way, it was a deliberate decision.

I will be eagerly awaiting reviews from posters who attend. I was hesitant to plunk down the money for the very overpriced seats (and lack of gold medals, lol), but then my husband surprised me with tickets for a trip the same week the tour comes to my town.
