It is crazy how we all have different teams for worlds. It really speaks to the insane depth this quad.

Simone, Shilese, and Skye are locks. I don’t see how you can make an argument otherwise. That leaves a gap on VT/FX and the opportunity to have a backup UB/BB so you can avoid putting up Simone and Shilese in TF.

If Suni has an 14.5 UB set, she’s going. However, there’s no point to take her just for beam when all three of the locks broke 14 this weekend easily.

Jade and Josc’s FX scores were really interesting this week, they aren’t TF worthy at this point and they were hit quite well, but they add a lot on vault. Kaliya adds way more on FX than on vault, but Jade and Josc are a pretty sure vault medal.

Leanne had a great weekend, but she doesn’t have a single team final worthy event except maybe FX.

This is by far the trickiest puzzle in a very long time.

Selection procedures are on this page: Elite Program • USA Gymnastics

I’d be happy to be wrong. But I’m reading it as they will only send the five athletes named to the team. But admittedly, it’s about as clear as mud and I might be completely wrong.
Highly possible that USAG turned down the Jong spot as she may have wished to decline thinking she would be in contention for Worlds or a spot on the Pan Am Team.

If Jong accepted the spot then she is an individual only athlete and not eligible for team consideration.

For the record I think the automatic spot based on 2021 is silly.

but Jade and Josc are a pretty sure vault medal.
Not necessarily. Especially the way Jade has been vaulting. International judges have been fine with Roberson’s form but Yeo still exists and Gadirova has upgraded too, right? It isn’t a sure thing as it was in the past anyway.

Even more evident here at 0:32 and 0:34. Such a weird little flaw.

You have to like Carey and Josc’s chances over all of them unless Andrade’s Cheng reappears.

I would prefer neither to be on the team but we have to be realistic that they have value add just based on the numbers.

Have we seen second vault scores yet? If we’re going purely on “who is more likely to medal on vault” I think Carey still has the edge. Her DTY is superior to Roberson.

Plus I wouldn’t be completely fucking embarrassed to put Jade up on bars in an emergency.

I agree. It will be interesting to see what their floors look like at Trials against Skye to see if they are even needed.

Is Skye training a Cheng?

Jade is also a 2 x world silver and gold medalist on vault and is reigning World champ

She’s gorgeous and I love her (could watch her first cast all day long) but the judges didn’t give her the same love. I don’t know if she’ll even be invited to camp.
Something that hurt Lew’s score on Day 1 was that the dismount was downgraded from a double layout to a double pike, accounting for the 5.4 D score (-0.1 DV and -0.2 dismount bonus). When inverted, she was already piked quite a bit before passing through vertical, resulting in the downgrade. If you compare this to her dismount on Day 2, Lew did a much better job of keeping her body straight and she was given her planned 5.7 D score.

I love Jade. But I would be very wary of putting her on the team at this point

2nd vault scores. It’s pretty much a wash. Maybe an edge to Jade but they will probably go by the trials numbers. Roberson has the edge on floor at the moment.

I hate Robertson’s gymnastics, but they are 100% going to go by the numbers and most likely prioritize a potential vault medal. Skye need to get her act together on floor and get that Cheng so we don’t need to have this conversation anymore.

Miyata (or is she injured?).
I think she’s dealing with some lower leg issues that she aggravated at the Event Championships and Universiade. She’s still competing somehow, probably because Japan desperately needs her, but she’s definitely not in great health atm. Plus I don’t think she has the difficulty to contend for a medal, just a DTY/Lopez.

Blakely .125 total away from Roberson, given Roberson’s D advantage 10.6 vs 9.8 for Blakley doesn’t really help Roberson much. Despite the .8 lead, Roberson doesn’t out distance Blakely by much.

ETA 1.6 advantage over two days and still Skye is just .125 away over two days.

This reads like a Jade Carey 2021 situation, where if Jong were part of the team or injured, her spot would be forfeited and not go to another U.S. gymnast. However, if she competes as an individual the U.S. would send five additional gymnasts to compete for the team.

Wong scored .05 lower than Lincoln tonight on floor, and finished 3rd AA. Based on what would you bring Lincoln for one event over Wong or even Chiles who was just a couple tenths lower on floor? Lincoln’s FX is not Miller’s UB, and Miller is going to get nowhere near the World team.
