Really unfortunate for McClain not doing elite this year.
She could have easily made the World team as a beam specialist.

Probably remove 1 or 2 from Pan Ams and place as Worlds alternates.

Jong WAS qualified as an individual athlete to Pan Am Games, but someone said the spot as declined?

There’s a large enough gap between Worlds and the start of gymnastics at Pan Ams that theoretically the Worlds alternate could compete there like they have Colt Walker doing for the men.

Agreed. It’s a shame she doesn’t have another event on par with her bars.

The US MAG teams announced earlier are sending the Worlds alternate to Pan Am Games. If they aren’t going to do that the alternate should be someone who doesn’t need the experience so much (Chiles, Wong, DiCello).

Yes,but traditionally, MAG has sent alternates to both, but not WAG.

my Pan Ams team would be:
Lee, DiCello, Lincoln, Miller, Roberson
VT: (Lee), DiCello, Lincoln, Roberson
UB: DiCello, Lee, Miller (Roberson)
BB: DiCello, Roberson, Lee (Lincoln)
FX: (Miller) DiCello, Roberson, Lincoln

altho DiCello and Sumanasekera could be switched

Petrosyan had no chance at Worlds or Pan Ams. Perhaps Jong and coaches declined the spot because they felt she had a chance at Worlds or the main Pan Am Games team…and she technically does for both.

I’d be happy to be wrong. But I’m reading it as they will only send the five athletes named to the team. But admittedly, it’s about as clear as mud and I might be completely wrong.

Katelyn Jong has earned a named individual quota spot for the USA at the 2023 PAG by winning the all-around competition at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games. If Katelyn qualifies as part of the 2023 PAG Team or if she is unable to participate in the 2023 PAG, her named individual quota spot will be void. Accordingly, USA Gymnastics shall only send athletes named to the 2023 PAG Team.
