Wong’s two VTs will be considered, but there is no edge over Blakely’s two VTs. Unfortunately, I don’t see medal potential from Wong on BB / FX / UB. Based on podium training, Roberson has an edge over Carey on BB, FX. Both of them have Cheng and DTY. Zoe Miller will cover the UB spot well. So my prediction is

VT: Jones(DTY), Blakely(DTY / Lopez), Roberson (Cheng / DTY), Biles (YDP / Cheng)
UB: Blakely (5.9), Biles (6.0), Jones (6.3), Miller (6.4)
BB: Jones (maybe 6.1-6.3 but not sure about consistency), Roberson (6.3), Blakely (mostly 6.4, maximum 6.6), Biles (6.5)
FX: Blakely (5.7-5.8), Jones (5.9), Roberson (6.4, 6.7 if she does the new pass), Biles (6.8-6.9)

My prediction is based on the medal potential. Miller will have a much stronger case if she becomes the bars champion at the Championship.

I see your logic, but I think you’re giving Roberson a leg up that I doubt she really has. Carey looks fine and she’ll outscore Roberson on VT, making the team as an easy medal alongside Biles as long as she’s also hitting floor at her usual level. I also don’t see Miller being brought just for bars with how little her edge is over the other three athletes you name in your line-up, sadly. If she wins UB this weekend it will not be by enough to secure a spot on this Worlds team. I think whoever scores higher AA between Wong, Chiles, and less so DiCello has a stronger case as a 5th person to drop into line-ups as needed.

Edited to add: I don’t think it matters what Roberson does on beam, she’s not getting anywhere near a TF line-up on that event. She needs to beat Carey on vault and I don’t see it happening.

I just watched more routines, and Wong is looking great on vault and beam. She added a new combination since Classics – side aerial to switch leap into her wolf jump full.
This is a bad connection. Last quad, I don’t think a single free cartwheel/walkover + switch leap was credited

see 3:00. Wong’s looks a little quicker but it’s still not happening

If Miller hits two bars routine (she nailed all her bars routines so far this year) this week, the 3rd - 4th bars will have at least 0.5 deficit consistently from Miller’s bars.

If Wong earns 3rd in overall AA this week, there is definitely a strong argument of Wong being on the Worlds team!

Just based on the podium training, Roberson was very solid on beam. If she maintains that level of consistency, her beam can be used in TF.

Only the toe-full is nonsensical with the giant full already in: she is either short of HS or breaking form. Biles on floor went OOB.
Has she ever done weiler kip + weiler kip 1/2 combo to start her routine? I’m sure she could… Then, ditch the toe-full and bring back the double double dismount to increase her DV.

or just do the toe on, count the C and lose .2… it’s not worth it at the moment

I never thought we would be praying for Carey to be on a team… but here we are. Carey to Roberson is Aly Raisman to Skinner.

My guess is that both will be named to the 6-person team and we will have to light candles to Pod until podium training like we always did with Skinner.

It’s interesting, since having such detailed access to podium training is such a new thing and we don’t have historic data to look at. There’s no, oh remember when Gymnast X looked terrible at podium training in 20XX then went on to have a fantastic championship.
Don’t tell me you don’t remember this chaos

I had completely forgotten about it, but I wished I’d remembered because a few months ago, I had some girls from my school go to an assessment and Mustafina was going to be there. They were super nervous, so I showed them some videos of her falling all over the place. I’ll remember that one for next time!
