It was Nationals not Trials. Top 2 in the AA and top 3 on two events at Nationals auto-put you on the World Team. It was the difficulty bonus system that put Donnell in 2nd at Nationals and locked him onto the team.Donnell got one of the guaranteed spots because of placing 2nd at trials didn’t he? Or am I misremembering?
Except he was limited to one event which didn’t pan out for either team medal or event final medal. No it wasn’t, nobody else had individual medal potential and nobody else was likely to change the result of the team event.
It’s unlikely to have “panned out” by taking anyone else in his place. You have to take the people who can actually win medals. Sometimes you will fall short, but you need to have a chance in the first place. Stephen’s qualifying score on Pommel shows he should be on the team. Especially if Russia gets back to competition. USA has no chance of a medal if they don’t take a team that can potentially put up a competitive number against Japan/China/Russia.Except he was limited to one event which didn’t pan out for either team medal or event final medal.
Yeah, I didn’t understand that decision AT ALL. Okay, maybe have him do his easier vault, but don’t go all the way to worlds and not have him vault in TF.USA was also dumb to bench Donnell after he had that stupid fluke foot skid on vault. If you’ve got Don on your team, he vaults.
It was named for her. Just like the 1 1/2 twisting Yurchenko was named after Shushunova.Maybe so. I read an interview where Denisse said it was named for her after she did it at the 1999 World championships.
