The top countries use the tried and true while being fair to the athletes. And that is why they medal and stay at the top. I imagine there are countries that succumb to political pressure and do not send the deserving athletes. And these are the countries that no matter how much talent they have will take a while to be medalists and lead the world in gymnastics. We all know which countries these are.
Which countries are you meaning?

Best case scenario for this team, outside of total disaster event finals, is probably 4 medals: Wong AA+VT, Skye BB, Roberson FX. I don't see Dulcy being much of a threat and would send Jayla Hang instead - she has put up several better AA scores this year and has some chance for a vault medal. Giving an automatic spot based on day 1 of trials is not so smart.

Well, Wong hit AA the first day, yet Caylor still outscored her (and that was with Wong's huge vault score). Plus, Caylor tied with Roberson for highest FX score, so if you consider Roberson a potential FX medal contender, why not Caylor?
We'll see, but I am absolutely Team Dulcy now.

If you were in the western STL suburbs, then it's certainly possible! I worked at All Star and then at GymQuarters!
It was like 10+ years ago and we lived close to KC, but we competed against GymQuarters quite often back then, so if you coached compulsory gymnasts, it's possible I watched you from the stands when cheering for my kids (GQ always swept it all as far as I remember).

Roberson is able to score higher and has done so many times in her career, whereas this is the only time Caylor has ever delivered a noteworthy FX. She should've had to perform FX again on Day 2 to show it wasn't a fluke. And frankly she got overscored anyway for this lackluster imitation version of Ellie Black's routine.

She delivered a great floor routine at this year's Jesolo and made event finals. The only problem was the triple wolf, which she has improved on. And of course she has since made the middle pass iconic with the punch front, which admittedly she has now only done well once in competition (plenty of times in podium warmups!), but I have hopes.

I also just realized how much Hardie upgraded for this meet from Nationals beyond floor (which was extensive). She also added the second layout to her flight series and tripled her wolf turn, and did a double full instead of a 1 1/2 (which feels minor lol but just mentioning it). I think her team thought she had a good shot if she'd hit everything, but then she botched even her leap series on floor. 2026 might be her year though.

I thought they played it safe (smartly) at nationals to ensure Hardie made the national team, and then showed upgrades at camp because they knew she wasn't actually in the running for worlds. But selection camp is a good chance to do upgraded routines without worrying about it negatively impacting future assignment possibilities.

I think with the guaranteed spot on the table, everyone present was in the running for Worlds. But agreed that Hardie was a long shot going in.

She does a pretty good job with it, but that choreography is not what I had expected from WCC under Kiens and Jones. Has she had the routine for long?

AA is still an amazing achievement and she has a whole quad to work through. Very happy for her but not mad about her fx.

Interesting that Caylor did a front handspring, front tuck immediate stag leap to fulfill the front tumbling requirement, since she did not punch front out of the double tuck.

That means that she has this in her back pocket, should she not be able to punch and needs to fulfill the front requirement.

How uniquely unamerican to be prepared with that sort of thing.

I think Camelia'sFingerPaint's post was in regard to 2010 Worlds when Mattie Larson left out the front layout out of the back 2 1/2 and had no other back up for a front element. This was the era where you could do an aerial or side aerial and get credit for the back element.

That missing requirement was .5 off D score and USA lost gold to Russia by .2.
Had Larson put in an aerial, they would have won by .5 despite her also putting her hands down on the double pike dismount.
