Obviously it’s extremely unlikely that Alipio makes the team as a balance beam specialist, given that she didn’t even win the event at nationals (and she’s not usable on other events) but I thought it was interesting that going just based on scores, she’s on the team.
It is. I wouldn’t have factored her in at all. Perhaps she might end up as alternate if there are injuries.

Chiles adds nothing to the team if Leanne Wong is healthy and if Konnor puts the D dismount into her Bars routine. Chiles was overscored on Floor and Bars at Nationals, especially Day 2 Bars. Those scores can not be trusted.

This Board’s panel of strict judges placed her in a tie for first on day 2

I tried to get through the broadcast but the revisionist history attempt by Tim made me shut off the tv. It was just appalling.

With that said, it looks like the World team will likely work itself out. As Kayla seems more inclined to move on… I’d take Leanne if she’s healthy. Leanne is more likely to hang around for Paris, so give her the team medal and continue to motivate her.

And we’ll have to see with what pen that dance elements will be judged with — the Olympic pen or the World Championship pen. Realistically with Russia being banned and Italy knocked out, it shouldn’t matter what team they field, the US should win. There shouldn’t be a ton of pressure on the team, but it’ll be a good test to see how they compete. The reliance on Simone in the past I think impacted their competitiveness. They never learned to compete under pressure, and now they can reacquire that skill.

Chiles on Bars day 2:

Toe full → .1 flex feet, .1 alignment, .3 angle
Pike tkatchev → .1 flex feet
Cast handstand → .1 adjustment
Maloney → .1 flex feet, .1 leg separation
Gienger → .1 height, .1 bent arm
Cast handstand → .1 adjustment
Giant 1/2 → .1 angle
Pike Jaeger → .1 bent knee, .1 flex feet
Cast handstand → .1 adjustment
Bail → .1 form
Toe-shoot → .1 height, .1 bent arm
Cast handstand → .1 adjustment
Dismount → .1 flex feet, .1 leg separation, .1 feet apart on landing

5.8 D, 7.7 E = 13.5 total. She got 14.1 at Nationals.

I’m in the 13.8-13.9 range on it, honestly. I feel like Chiles is getting a lot of negative attention, you’d think she was the new Mykayla, but she was quite solid all meet. Yes, she lost a quick half point on the toe full in her bars, and her splits are about 5% to 10% under over half the time, but it’s not like most of the national team is hitting all their splits. And the patience to save that toe full showed a mental focus that I think bodes well.
