Ouch.Don’t forget the ones that don’t purchase insurance because they don’t want to government to tell them what to do. They’re often conservative christians who join “cost sharing” programs. Which do fuck all when you have a catastrophic medical event like this.
She probably isn’t insurable due to all her previous surgeries or the premiums are way too expensive.I don’t know. I certainly don’t want anything more terrible to happen to her, but I can’t help but feel kind of weird about her family asking for donations to cover her health expenses. I remember seeing some of Mckenna’s videos a few years ago and seeing the family’s massive house. Just… huh? And 50k for a week in the ICU is CHEAP. If they are budgeting for that then they’ve got a surprise in store.
And even if she was on her husband’s insurance while they were married, could she not get… you know, a job like everyone else and get insurance? Or buy some without going through her theoretical employer?
People who don’t see the necessity of buying insurance and go crying broke when something bad happens to them (that insurance would take care of) just irritate me.
I thought pre-existing conditions went away? She probably isn’t insurable due to all her previous surgeries or the premiums are way too expensive.
I have a very hard time having sympathy for the financial side of this, not to mention the past abuser apologist behavior.I haven’t been involved in the ins and outs of ACA (Obamacare) legislation is a very long time, and goodness knows the Supreme Court has done their best to gut it in the years since, but I also believe it is virtually impossible to get turned down for insurance these days.
The likely answer is, for one reason or another, MLT voluntary chose not to have insurance.
Agreed; I’m not in a position to donate, but hope she recovers fully. The family has raised $155,000 so far, so obviously there are a lot of people who care deeply about her and have the means to help out. I honestly don’t think not having insurance is super weird, and we have no idea what her current financial situation is. When I got off my parents insurance, I totally spaced and forgot to get my own, at the time I was healthy and wasn’t thinking something awful could happen. It would make sense that if she was on her husbands insurance and they got divorced, she was healthy at the time her coverage ended and just hadn’t gotten to getting her own when this happened.Everyone should have healthcare, no matter what they’ve said or done - and families shouldn’t have to be in desperate anxiety about money when they are also terrified about what is happening to a loved one. I am no fan of hers when it comes to her views or even her gymnastics, but I hope she makes a full recovery. Clearly she is much loved by her kids.
Somehow people have this idea that if you don’t get health insurance through your employer then the only other option is the government. Not true, you can BUY IT yourself. Shouldn’t be hard for someone with plenty of money.Saw online that she has a net worth of $8,000,000. And, people were advising them to apply for Medicaid. Uh, Medicaid is for POOR people. I truly hope she has a speedy recovery, but I can’t wrap my head around the financial side of this….
