Extremely Premature Olympic Team Predictions and Speculation

I would not put Wong on the team at all. She hasn’t materialized any upgrades at all this quad to make her competitive, nor do I have any confidence in the Florida coaching staff to make upgrades pan out. She has lucked out to make any team final lineups due to Skye’s inconsistency and Roberson’s injury.

I just don’t see how she fits in without having a TF worthy routine when DiCello looks so improved this year. She is going to make the perfect alternate.

I'm looking forward to seeing her in context with the other top contenders at Classics and Nationals. Right now, she's a head and a half above her competition, but it hasn't really been much in the way of competition.

Even Grace made finals but ended up being 2 per'd.
DiCello would be in similar position, able to make a finals, but 2 per'd with her best chance on FX.

The upgraded bars could also maybe sneak past Biles to join Jones in EF, but not if we actually put a bars specialist on the team to beat both of them...

The only people I would put on an Olympic team today are Biles and DiCello. DiCello is the only US gymnast to post Olympic worthy scores so far this year, and Biles is most likely capable of performing her usual.

Of the big names: Chiles and Carey were both rough last year, and now Chiles is freshly injured. Zeiss’ injury from last year is looking like it basically ended the quad for her. Roberson is a question mark with her ankle recovery. Suni hasn’t shown that she can hit her routines. Douglas we haven’t seen at all.

Jones and Wong are probably good to go, just haven’t seen them yet this year. Blakely is inconsistent under pressure. Lincoln needs to compete more, can she stay near the top two years in a row?

No one who competed at April camp did anything impressive, aside from Pease who isn’t eligible for the Olympics. The new seniors aren’t putting up competitive scores on enough events yet. If Dulcy Caylor does well at Jesolo, maybe she’ll be the Roberson of this year and ride that surge of confidence into the top group.

With the amount of people who aren’t competing anything until US Classic, I don’t think I could predict who will make Trials let alone the Olympic Team. So my only prediction is we will end up with surprising AA placements at Nationals. I don’t think all the big players are going to stay at the top, and more of the B team then we’d expect will end up in the top 10.
Wait, Chiles is freshly injured? Where did we learn that? What is her injury?

I think it’s a flare up of a shoulder injury that she’s had on and off trouble with for the past couple years.

Simone, Suni, Gabby, Shilese and Jade would be the most hilarious line-up. I would absolutely fucking love it.

VT (Gabby), Shilese, Jade, Simone
UB (Simone), Shilese, Gabby, Suni
BB (Gabby), Shilese, Suni, Simone
FX (Gabby), Jade, Shilese, Simone

ETA: I don't think Jade is going to be anywhere near this team unless her floor is 1000x improved. It would probably be ... Roberson.

I hope that DiCello's beam is appropriately E-scored at Nationals and Trials. But I agree that she's making a great case for herself as an excellent first-choice Alternate.

Wait, Jade Carey still exists? I thought she vanished into thin air!

I don't remember if I previously posted my premature team (it would have likely included Gabby), but this is what I'm thinking before Classic. We still haven't seen most of the major players compete in 2024 so we have a few more days before we can have a more realistic debate.

Simone, Shilese, Suni, Jade and Dicello.

Of these, I am only confident in Simone and Shilese. Jade could be replaced by Jocelyn or Chiles depending on who is cleanest on floor/vault. Dicello could be replaced by Chiles or Wong. In my opinion, Suni really needs to stay healthy enough to train and she will be on the team but who knows if that is possible.

I would love for Gabby, Kaliya Lincoln, McClain, Skye Blakely or Jayla Hang to surprise us and be in contention for the team but I don't think it is likely. I would guess that they make Trials.

I need to see Suni getting through full beam and bars sets before I can put her on the team.
She is supposedly (Gymcastic) not going for FX and will only do 3 events this year.

I think you have it almost exactly right. Except that I am pretty much also confident that Jade will make the Team

Why would she bother training vault, then? I don't see any scenario where she isn't the 5th best vault on the team.

Feels like a break from the norm to have seen so little of the main US contenders in mid May.

I don't count 2021 for obvious reasons. In 2016 and 2012 we'd communally called the Olympic teams, and in 08 the craic with most of the main contenders was clear at Scam.
