European Gymnastics has reopened the bidding for next year's Euros due to the political situation in Israel/Palestine.

Wild that there are more hosting issues post- compared to mid-pandemic. Of course it’s for a variety of reasons but yikes!

When it comes to Euros I’m always surprised that Spain has never hosted. It’s a big country and has had international success in the sport. The only AG event they’ve hosted this millennium that comes to mind is the 2008 WCF in Madrid.

Turkiye is like:
Nba Playoffs GIF by Milwaukee Bucks

"BUT WE HOSTED 2020!"
I went to the Alina Kabaeva Cup recently, and there were fewer presidential portraits gracing the arena than there were when Türkiye hosted Euros 😂

I definitely think the UEG will consider political situations and potential situations extremely closely with this one, and going forward. Just make everything Belgium

The new host has been announced as Leipzig.

There's also going to be a mixed team final, which is really interesting. Brand new for Euros. This is the one year of the quad where there wouldn't otherwise have to be any team competition at all, with it being an individual worlds.

Possibly doing test runs for LA28:

That's good news. I was a little concerned they'd do something stupid like give it to Baku.
They have a new criteria now that prohibits countries with areas of active conflict. It’s expensive having to find a new host. They should probably just hold everything in Lausanne

Tickets for Leipzig go on sale next week. Currently looking at options around flights and hotels and annual leave and trying to decide whether the mixed team thing will be worth a look... And perhaps more importantly whether I can convince my nearly-eight-year-old to watch (ugh) BOYS doing gymnastics.

I'm definitely going to go since I live in Berlin. Leipzig is very close by.

I find it strange that the finals are on Friday and Saturday and not on Sunday. I'm prob going for those two days only.

Happy to meet up with anyone who is going. I will either be alone or with my 5 year old (I know...).

Because everything is closed on Sunday, even Lidl?

Finals are on Friday and Saturday because the Deutsches Turnfest (German Gymnastics Festival) is in Leipzig at the same time. The Turnfest is a big festival for gymnasts which usually takes part every four years. Around 80.000 participants compete in the different disciplines the German gymnastics association offers. There are lots of different opportunities to watch and try other sport, visit shows and lectures. The Turnfest is from Wednesday till Sunday so the Euro finals are Friday and Saturday that the participants can watch them and then travel home on Sunday.

This will be fun!
New format. Not just individuals this year.
They are doing a team medal this time, using qualifications to determine the medals.
Following qualifications there is a Mixed Team final. I am curious what that is going to look like.
Then the Individual AA finals and Event Finals.
