So you have to say "Inquiry for Jordan Chiles, 5.6 D" or whatever verbally for it to be accepted initially? That seems overly complicated because why do the judges need to hear the D score back at the when they are the ones who awarded it? Maybe there needs to be a script that all coaches are taught/reminded of prior to every competition. "Official inquiry for (gymanst name) about D score/ND taken/both D score and ND" or something similar.
No you have to say what D score you expect for them. I am seeing different accounts of whether this is part of the verbal or written enquiry, but it is definitely required at least in the written.

After being called back and asked Jordan's expected score, Landi added Simone's too - c'etait sept zero, she says, it was 7.0 - but it was obviously too late and she wasn't qualified to enquire for Simone at that event anyway. The official had said it to Cecile: for Simone, he didn't give the [target? muffled] score to change. Then there is more muffled conversation and Cecile is presumably told it's too late.

There is a bit of victim blaming in Donnatella Sacchi's recent interview, where she says she doesn't know who "pushed" Ana Barbosu to celebrate on the podium, probably officials trying to hurry things along to the medal ceremony. Then she adds that FIG had proof (presumably that the enquiry in process was posted). Rebeca Andrade pointed up to the scoreboard, proving that the enquiry was posted there and showing that Rebeca was a much more experienced gymnast than Ana and waited before celebrating.

The problem - Rebeca had already been announced as gold medalist at that stage and had been up on the podium celebrating, before Ana. And when Rebeca gestured up to to the scoreboard, Jordan was already celebrating and Ana was off the podium in tears.

It was nothing to do with how experienced anyone was. All the gymnasts waited the minute before getting on the podium, and all of them reacted to Jordan's enquiry result at the same time.

FIG messed up on many counts here but still seem unwilling to accept that the gymnasts did nothing wrong.

Sacchi's interview also says that the inquiry system is the same for ND and D. So I wonder if the technical officer gave Camelia Voinea the same reminder as she gave Cecile Landi - "il faut nous donner la note de depart"? Because that means very specifically start value (so difficulty value). Laurent seemingly got no advice, Cecile got the right instructions and Voinea ... we don't know but it was the Romanian Federation who wanted to see that officer again at the arbitration.
