Thank god I didn’t bother waking up at 4am for this shitshow.

I don’t want to judge Friday morning because it’s demoralizing to judge a competion in which every execution score is under 7.

Ha I sometimes find the reeeeally bad scores quite fun to judge. Like, in the 3’s and 4’s on Execution. It’s more satisfying when you get close to the “real” score.

Most of the rest of the scores you can just say “7.8” and you’ll be 3 tenths either side for 50% of the routines!

ON a side note - I just had my second Pfizer shot and I’m scared to go to bed because I’ve heard that the side effects start when you wake up the next morning!!

So, catching up on a few routines… I thought the free leg in a wolf turn was supposed to be out to the side, in essentially the same position as the starting pose, throughout. The gymnasts all seem to be working toward having the free leg shift to a straight ahead/pistol squat position as the ideal. Urazova and Listunova both use this technique and it looks great, but isn’t it deductible? Or am I just straight making things up about what this shape is supposed to be?

It is nice to see some wolves with nice upright posture, a full depth squat position, unwavering arm and leg placement, and good knees and toes.

Hope it’s not too bad! I actually just got covid last Sunday. I don’t feel too good, but no fever luckily. On the plus side: I get to watch Europeans during quarantine (that is if the Basel live stream let’s me…) and I’ll be relatively immune for a while.
Because I will probably be vaccinated somewhere mid 2025 with our lovely vaccination program.

To be fair that’s because she’s vastly inconsistent rather than because she can’t bring in a high enough score on her good day. But yes, the McMelnikovurd group in Europe is spread over several countries, whereas in the US it isn’t. So it would be possible for every single European in the 55s to be in Tokyo, whereas it’s unlikely that every American in that cohort will. This is a different point to which of them all is best though.

I was up watching (well as much as I could actually watch #errorcode242 #badgateway) from 2am-12:30pm. Was exhausted and delirious the rest of the day, but it was worth it to finally watch some gymnastics again. Hopefully the live streams are working from here on out. Loved watching Larisa clinch her spot to Tokyo!

Oh no! Hope your doing okay and get better soon. If you’ve got to be self isolating or in quarantine right now, you mind as well binge watch some new gymnastics!

imma leave this here for Doug to completely lose his mind:

In the Netherlands. Our vaccination strategies (if you can even call them strategies) are a disaster.
Mid 2025 was me being a little cynical of course, but it could take a while before it’s my turn.

It was officially my turn in March, still not vaccinated and my doctor has no clue when its gojng to nappen, so yeah I know what you mean…

Yes! Makes it even more amazing. I hope she rests and recovers well and kicks ass in Tokyo. No need for AA or event finals, she has nothing left to prove…

Got my second Pfizer three days ago. Not as achy as the first one, but I’m so much more tired. I have zero energy

Marine Boyer has withdrawn from AA (replaced by Sheyen Petit), as has Vanessa Ferrari (replaced by Alice D’Amato). Currently both remain in their respective AF.
Edit: Alice not subbed in, looks like Maoni Visser from the start list.

Larisa was apparently a little under the weather. From Romanian Gymnastics on FB.

Well, I actually feel better about her score after seeing that replay. Yeah, the fall, okay not a stuck dismount, but from the tiny screen I was watching on and angle, I thought her last leap barely made it off the beam but on rewatch, I can see she hit 180. (but point your toes, girl!) It also looked more confident there than it did watching it live, but maybe that was some of my own nervousness for her translating into how it looked.

I don’t think the tuckstand needs to have the leg out to the side. In the 70s and 80s many gymnasts performed it with the free leg in front of them, as did Mitchell when she got the triple named after her.
