Interesting leo. Looks like her name on her hip so I'm guessing she designed it herself.
(
ETA: These aerobic length leos are specifically designed by her and are an FIG approved length for artistic! https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/15281782 )
Great tumbling.
NHK Trophy 2025: Sugihara Aiko caps dramatic 10-year reprisal for second title and world gymnastics championship ticket
By Shintaro Kano - 17 May 2025
Ten years. Now that’s a comeback.
Sugihara Aiko won the women’s
NHK Trophy for the first time since 2015 by a mere 0.033 over
Kishi Rina on Saturday (17 May), punching her ticket to this year’s
World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta.
It was the longest drought between titles in the competition’s history.
Sugihara, 25, came into the NHK Trophy in Tokyo a point behind Kishi, who had won last month’s All Japan All-Around Championships. Points from the All Japans carry over to the NHK Trophy.
After Kishi fell on the balance beam, Sugihara pounced at the opportunity on the last apparatus with the top floor score of 13.933 for a 162.163 total that overtook the All Japan champion. Sugihara was trailing Kishi by 0.2 going into the last event.
Finishing third was
Okamura Mana (157.963), followed by
Nakamura Haruka (157.795). The two joined Sugihara and Kishi on the team for the World Championships in October.
It was a remarkable turnaround for two-time Olympian Sugihara, who retired once after
Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in 2021. She returned to competition in November 2023 but was only a reserve on the
Paris 2024 team.
When the final score flashed on the screen at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, it was impossible for Sugihara to contain a smile.
“I never imagined I’d win after 10 years,” Sugihara said. “We all bloom at different times. I’m just glad I found a way to bloom.
“I’m so grateful. The most important thing was to focus on my own performance and not worry about the score.”
