How would Camelia be wealthy, I thought gymnastics coaching did not pays well in Romania.
Did she stop coaching children to coach Sabrina, or does Sabrina train in a group?
She is not wealthy from coaching. She owns a very successful agricultural business and her husband is also successful in business.

I have doubts about this - she went on to pull things out of the fire for the team with her beam routine.

She stopped vaulting in competition after this for a while and has only just gone back to two vaults.

And Camelia had a meltdown on the sidelines, so it doesn't look as if sacrificing vault was in the Voinea family master plan. Sabrina was considered as much a vaulter as anything else at that point.

I can see why people would believe it and I remember gossip at the time, but it doesn't add up at all for me. I can believe that Sabrina wasn't pushed to prioritize the team score but she was a potential finalist on vault as well as floor and beam back then.

IF that is true, why would you tell anyone thats what you've agreed to do?

Camelia is clearly a monster who should never be allowed near a gym again but this specific incident sounds a bit too far fetched to be believable without clear evidence.

No she was not - watch her vaults from RomGym Trophy that September. An extremely low DTY & a half on front tuck landed in a deep squat

She had personal motives (EF and/or Olympic qualification) to hit beam & floor, but absolutely none for vault
She'd made Euro finals and she'd have been R2 at worlds with that qualifying score. Her form is often awful on all her events.

She hadn't done beam yet - and rarely hit that beam routine - and it was very early in qualifying to decide to rely purely on floor. They couldn't know yet that she'd be the only one to qualify to that final from a team that didn't make it to the Olympics, if Romania lost out. Someone like Sarah Voss could have edged her out, if the rest of the event had unfolded differently.

I just don't think they could have been confident enough in her chances yet to do this, even out of self-interest.

Yeah, I'm going to wait for more on this one. People do make stupid choices all the time, but this is sufficiently out there to require more corroboration.

Also, what are the chances that the Voineas ever delved deep enough into the Code of Points to know about the rule on touching the springboard?

If it had been deliberate I expect she'd have touched the vault.

True, it would've made more sense to put the matter beyond doubt!

Does anyone know what exactly was said in the podcast? I don't subscribe, and it would be interesting to hear the wording.

There is something odd that happens with the Voineas and the team though as this is not the only time this is happened. I wonder whether her separate training and privileges mean that the Voineas consider Sabrina as an individual, chasing individual medals and not part of a team. They were noticeably absent from team photos on Instagram at Euros.

At Euros this year Romania only needed a 13.3 vault to medal in TF - but Sabrina merely presented and scratched even though down for 2 vaults. So Golgota's 12.8 had to stand and Romania finished 4th. Barbosu and Golgota must have been delirious that after all their work to get Romania into medal contention - Sabrina didn't vault, nor did Sabrina contribute a single counting team score.

I apologise for subjecting everyone to a Voinea UB routine, but you gotta watch to the end…

After the infamous 7.75 UB score at the 2025 Romanian Olympic trials - I looked on Youtube and could not find a single UB routine (junior or senior) where Sabrina managed a pirouette in handstand - sometimes she stalls/falls and other times she is so late the pirouette is completed almost at horizontal!

Mama Voinea's chuck big skills philosophy and poor coaching of basics really came back to bite Sabrina - although Camelia was never great at UB

There is, and to that end I find it completely plausible that Sabrina would sod the team off in pursuit of her own interests if the two could be definitively separated out. But that wasn't the situation she was in. Would be a helluva risk, notwithstanding that is this stupid and did it happen are not the same question.

I do also think she looked completely wrecked at Euros this year. It wouldn't surprise me if she didn't feel fit to compete the event she's most patchy on (whether Camelia would have allowed the scratch if she gave a shit about team medals is another point).

Depending on the wording gymcastic used as well, it might be that there are two questions here- did Camelia say this and did it happen? Ie are the sources saying Camelia claimed to them she'd done this or that they witnessed it. If anyone's heard it, would be great to get more info.
