Maybe this will make USAG rethink the position of Tom
But why though?
It is slim pickings for most countries who aren’t sending their top athletes. Canada and France are missing their stars and Belgium is not sending Nina Derwael.
There is always a purge to NCAA following the Olympics and the rest are at the Gold Tour.
All of the ones mentioned have potential at a depleted Worlds.

I wonder if Drayton and Miller are going to camp. Miller has a strong chance at a bars spot. Also, Addison Fatta and Ciena Alipio have potential. Marta sent an unexperienced team in 2002 and look what happened.

It is still sort of hard. We usually have 4 years to prepare for the Olympics and now only 3. Are the US still doing monthly camps or has that been gone since covid?

Well this is true every year post Olympics, always a reboot of the national team.
While the remaining group doesn’t seem that great based on the talent that is retired or going to NCAA, a lot can change in a year. Siegfeldt and Fatta could be contributors. No one would have predicted Maggie Nichols would do as well as she did based on her 2013 performances.
Also look for 2006 ladies to play a factor next year. Kailin Chio, Josceleyn Roberson, Kaliya Lincoln, Katelyn Jong, Charlotte Booth are all talented. I anticipate 2-3 of them making up the 2022 World Team. Specifically Jong, Chio, and Lincoln. Those three with a healthy and competitive McClain and DiCello could be dangerous at a team Worlds and could retain the World Team title even without Biles.

HAHAHA!
The 2022 Ladies team nickname can be the 5K. Kayla, Konnor, Kaliya, Kailin, Katelyn

I want to die. Seriously America?

I was complaining the other day that one of my classes has 3 Aleksandras, 3 Marias, 2 Viktorias, 2 Sofias and 2 Alisas. I will never complain about this ever again!

I think it’s hard to keep the 2006-2007 athletes in mind sometimes for this quad because between COVID taking away all the chances we would have had to see them compete internationally this past year or so, and flo having the only broadcasting rights for their view competitions, we just have not seen much of them. All we can do is look at the scores from Nationals this last year and see that the single highest one-day all around score was only a 54–we haven’t seen many videos to show us the potential is there with a little more time and a few more competitions.

I really only see Kaliya as having any real potential, but boy does she have a ton of potential.

McClain interview about the 2021 season. Summary in case of device or viewing issues: she hadn’t been feeling Revolution for awhile and felt so unprepared for Classics, she knew it would be a mess. Suni helped her narrow down her switch to WOGA, WCC, Midwest, and Hill’s. She went with WOGA because she liked Valeri from the developmental program and felt it was the best fit overall.

They had to admit before US Championships that Tokyo wasn’t happening because of nagging ankle injuries and dwindling fitness. She’s very excited for camp now and feels totally refreshed at WOGA. Says beam has a few upgrades, bars is mostly the same but they have a plan for the quad, and floor will be “a huge surprise” WRT upgrades if she can pull them off.

Some highlights:
“After [March national team selection] camp I kind of got out of shape because I wasn’t being coached as much in the gym,” McClain said. “I didn’t know what to tell myself or how to coach myself in the gym. I felt like I was trying to get myself ready for Classics, but nobody else was.”

McClain struggled to find motivation and a sense of purpose in the gym. “Nothing was ever about gymnastics anymore,” she said. “It was just me in the gym trying to make it through the day.”
2021 was supposed to be McClain’s breakout year on the senior stage, but it felt more like the end of her career. She considered two options: quit the sport or switch gyms. The thought of switching gyms had been looming in McClain’s mind for the past year and half, but it wasn’t an easy move to make.

[…]

After the U.S. Classic, a practice was held at the USA Gymnastics training center in Indianapolis. McClain said it went worse than the competition… and that’s when she knew something had to change.
I had no idea there was a camp immediately after Classics. And I cannot fathom what went down if it was worse than what happened at the competition. Poor kid.

What does she mean she wasn’t really being coached anymore at her previous gym? Was she being punished? Did they just give up on her?

I don’t know, but it is a very curious comment and I’d certainly like to know what she meant by it.

One of my favourite things about American gymnastics is seeing the names of some of the juniors coming through … and inwardly thanking my parents that they gave me a Biblical /Royal name combination!
Yeah, I feel like I want to replenish the world with Jacks and Judys to make up for all this Kage and Lakelynn shit going on. Pets have more anthropomorphic names nowadays.

Alas, I am only one person.

from what I remember her coaches (Konnor’s) were very racist, pushing politics into the gym … I forget which episode of Golden on Peacock, maybe episode 5, but her coaches especially the husband of Susan Brown came off very smug, racist, immature, defensive, passing the blame onto Konnor

she already seems to have intense anxiety, and very loving but intense parents … i hope she finds a balance of success at WOGA
