It got close!
Let's see if USA can pass Canada for silver.
Japan is likely team gold unless disaster strikes.

I never thought Oka was the best in the world — he was just the best that day when other people faltered. But I thought he was at least the 2nd best in Japan after Daiki Hashimoto. That didn't work out so well in qualifications.

Emard can do much better, but I don't think Colt Walker can increase as much as Emard. So I guess he would be the favorite for bronze.

Look at the execution scores over 9 that we're now getting in Men's gymnastics. I wonder if they will start penalizing hops on floor less severely as well as lighten up on the hold deductions on rings a little to equalize the E-score distributions.

All 3 Armenians over 9.

Not over 9, but lots of high 8s.

It's vault, so lots of 9s.

2 scores over 9 and many in the high 8s.

What world are we living in where multiple guys get over 9 on high bar? Lots of high 8s as well. Thorpe would also be in there if he listened to me about his Healy. LOL.

AUS team was down to just 3 gymnasts Emma Morris (WA), Adelaide Hooper (club mate of Ruby Pass) and Kate McDonald, so 3-up-3-count.

Kate vaulted! Didn’t see it but a D of 1.6 so a handspring? Score 10.6. Bars she was late on a full pirouette and didn’t connect it to Tkatchev. Beam I think she missed a few connections. Floor was great until she fell on a 2.5 twist at the end. She tried to cover that mistake and it was so pretty I want to watch it again once the livestream is replayed.
Edit: floor mistake is at 1:51:16 of the stream

Japan completely dominated.
What an exciting last subdivision.
Look how close it was between France in bronze and then Korea (who counted a 10 on beam), Switzerland just missed bronze (Anny Wu fell on the last routine), Taiwan needed stronger vault (counted a Yurchenko Layout).
Switzerland was on fire hitting 11/12 routines. 3 up 3 count for them.

Here is Japan's amazing team performance. If there was a team Worlds this year, this team could be super competitive. Great to see Miyata Shoko back.

It will be interesting if Kate McDonald decides to compete as she HAS qualified to the AA final but did so with a front handspring vault (1.6/9.0). She realistically has no chance at a medal with that vault. So wonder if she will save herself for bars finals, where she is the highest qualifier.
