Lincoln not doing vault or floor sort of takes her out.
Roberson is also out IMO.
Thomas is likely done- do we have a diagnosis?

Biles, Jones, Blakely, DiCello, Lee, Carey, Chiles, Wong, Sumansekera
These are the 9 still in contention for Paris. Everyone else is out.
Hezly Rivera could be the spoiler because she was 6th AA after hitting 4/4, but wasn't top 5 on anything and is super inconsistent.

Do we know how many will go to trials? Personally I feel that 16 is a good number. It’s enough that every genuine contender will be there, and provides optimum conditions for the broadcaster to build excitement whilst we viewers can see every routine.

Biles, Jones, Blakely, Chiles, Carey, DiCello, Lee, Wong, Sumanasekera, Roberson, Rivera, Lincoln, Caylor, Hang, Rose and Fatta seem to be the right group of 16

Zoey Molomo would likely get an invite if she finishes top 12 tomorrow. I could see Matthews and Lowe also get an invite.

Depends what they want to do.

Be very interesting to see how day 2 goes. A lot of people right on a bubble to make trials. If they accept Shilese (duh) and Kaliya (probable) that means there's only 14-18 spots. Since there's no stand out true specialists this year, they will probably go in rank AA order.

3 rotations of 6 would keep the event moving but allow for key routines to be featured.

Are they competing on the equipment that will be at the Olympics or one of their usual sponsor's stuff?

They're only doing 2 events at a time at Trials. They've already made the judging assignments based on that, they will not be changing it.

I'm very curious to see how tomorrow goes. The people who were able to finish the meet (so everyone except for Trinity and Kaliya) generally all had a very clean competition: the only fall I recall is Jordan's on floor. I wonder how much of that is Olympic year preparedness and how much is some sort of astrological convergence. I don't think it could possibly just be the former.

Edit: wording

The last two spots come down to whether Suni can hit the jaeger full, both days, at Trials. This would help out Jade but she needs a floor of 14+.

Kayla is still expendable, IMO, but momentum and scoring are in her favor.
I think this is exactly correct. I’m not 100% sure that both Suni and Jade will successfully compete their upgrades it if both do, Kayla is the alternate.

I don't know what Carey is doing without the full difficulty on floor. Last cycle she had already made the team by now and was pacing for the big show, but she doesn't have that luxury this time around and must surely be aware of the stakes here, especially with three Chengs (in addition to Biles who is a lock) now in the selection mix. If she isn't outscoring Biles, Jones, or DiCello on floor, why do you take her just for a couple tenths on vault?

Especially since Blakley now has the exact same two vaults as Carey. She can make Olympic VT finals with those vaults and maybe even medal.

It’s much more competitive now! Trials will be on fire.

View attachment 10342Just...why? Does she do it better in practice because it has never looked good in competition. Kayla isn't one of my front runners but I want her to have a good shot. This is not good.

ETA: Caylor's is also a tragedy.
ETA2: jade's is almost good (hard to tell angle)
0.5 body shape. 0.3 wobble.

WHY?

That's the "new vault" crack, talking.
Yeah, I thought Skye's competition vault looked better than the podium training ones but from the scores, I thought Jade must have really chucked it but hers didn't look bad at all. Was Skye really .5 better?
