The cost of attending US competitions has been a hot topic the last few years. It's just absurdly expensive to attend even a single day once you factor in parking, ticket fees, etc. I spent nearly $400 just on tickets for me and my mom to attend 1 junior session and both senior women sessions in Tampa a couple years ago. That doesn't include parking, food, etc.

I thought about going to Trials because we could then do family vacation in the Minnesota northwoods, but the second I saw ticket prices, I said absolutely no way. The cheapest ticket would have cost me almost as much as what I paid for 3 plane tickets to California instead.

Presumably they are managing to fill arenas at these prices though? Surely it would be a better business strategy for USAG to hold events in large arenas as bigger capacity but lower ticket prices should yield higher profits. Perhaps they haven’t caught up with how popular the sport has become, or perhaps finically they are not out of the woods in the aftermath of LN and losing sponsors etc

For Trials, they fill the arena. Senior women they generally are full or at least fairly full. But for men and junior women? Sparsely attended, at best. Maybe they generate enough revenue just through senior women ticket sales to justify it.

A couple of years ago, the price for US Classic tickets was outrageous considering the number of gymnasts (and the quality.......) that competed. I'll be curious what attendance at Winter Cup looks like since they're doing cheaper all general admission bleacher seating.

Gabby's still on the list! Was the division of the senior women based (at least to some extent) on qualifying scores?

(I have also been informed that Charleigh is said Charlie by one of her former coaches, not Sharley like the announcer was saying so I rescind my joke about her parents not being able to decide between Charlotte and Carly)

I mean, I don't think anyone was mis-assigned, I just wondered what they based it on (cuz it could have been all of gym X is going in the early session, too bad so sad or maybe they just drew lots) but obviously all the "name" gymnasts are going to be in the main session. And if I count right that is 28 gymnasts in the night session which doesn't exactly come out to even subdivisions (though I guess a few are only qualified on 2 or 3). I can see a few more in the night session who could be bumped, not going to lie.

You have to outweigh the cost of the tickets and balance it with the large headache you will get from all the screaming kiddos in the stands. A friend of mine, a mom, took her daughter (a club gymnast) to US Classic and she said the screaming was unbearable. Her ears were still ringing all day Sunday.

I'm fairly certain that on the night session, only Gabby Douglas and Suni Lee are not qualified for AA. And Suni could potentially petition. All.of the other 2 and 3 eventers are in session 1.

If you purchased tickets to one session, but would like to attend both, please fill out the following form: https://dickiesarena.formstack.com/forms/usagymticketassist

It asks for confirmation # but all I could find was the order # so I entered that

Side note: This messes with my prearranged childcare. Now I'm scrambling to find someone to watch them for the junior sessions.

I'm hoping the ticket costs will keep trials to a less shrill roar but I am also bringing hearing protection.

Not sure about Trials because I think USOPC controls tickets instead of USAG, but because they sell so many tickets directly to clubs at a discount, most meets have tons of small children screeching.

When Myli pulled out of classics I had hoped it was just precautionary since she was already qualified to Championships. Sad for her.
