And still one more athlete to go to improve the total score.

Mizuno goes into first for FX qualifying as well.

Yamaguchi Sara doesn’t change the team total but is the top AA qualifier.

Jayla Hang is down to 17th now, but with only one subdivision left even if China, Canada and GB all get two gymnasts ahead she’d still qualify unless there are some very good gymnasts from the smaller countries. Could win if she stays on beam in the final.

I take it nobody’s managed to pull off a surreptitious sideways livestream a la worlds prelims, Rio test event etc?

China score 23.733 (11.866 average) on floor so I think they’re out of the running.

I know floor has been a problem for them for a while, but scoring less than Panama and Uzbekistan must be a first.

Videos of some podium routines for. China:

Good performance for GB on floor after a bit of a rough start on beam. Jemima Taylor (5th) and Abigail Martin (8th) both currently in qualifying positions for the final with only two rotations left.

Pretty sure this is going to finish Japan-USA-Italy.

One of the Chinese gymnasts has a zero on vault now. Was their leading scorer after the first two events.

Chinese juniors keeping up the proud tradition of bars meltdowns, I see.

Canada 4th, China 6th, GB 9th from the final subdivision.

Medals:
  1. Japan 104.230
  2. USA 102.198
  3. Italy 101.996

GB had a bit of a day and I think counted falls almost everywhere, as did China. Canada seem to have done very well.

BIG day for Japan, Canada, and Argentina.

Jayla Hang sneaks into AA finals. Be very interested to see how she regroups tomorrow.

Apologies in advance if I screw this up. EF qualifiers.

The Kazakh gymnast who will be in the pommels final did a 1.6D vault and 1.9D floor routine
There was actually a more extreme example of this in 2019. Croatian PH specialist Mateo Zugec qualified for the PH final, his other five events averaged 1.1 D score, and his 0.6 D rings routine would have received a negative score if that were possible (0.6 D, 7.633 E, -8.3).

Anyway, with Hezly Rivera and Yu Hanyue qualifying to event finals today with zeros on vault, could someone not just run up and touch the apparatus they don’t want to do, intentionally score zero and that would be enough? Maybe the FIG would say it was unsportsmanlike or something.

that would be considered a DNS because they didn’t actually vault.
The other two vaulted and didn’t land feet first.
