There is something quite poignant about one podium being all about the joy of seeing the former Soviet, Chusovitina still winning, to the next podium moments later involving 3 teenagers caught up in a war. It makes me very sad
Yes. It also raises the issue about the extent to which it is best to just keep politics out of “amateur” sports which was the original intent certainly of the Olympics.

Yeah, but the Olympics haven’t been amateur for 30 years now (and in many cases, athletes were actually amateur long before that)

I know. That’s why I put amateur in quotes. But I want to be able to celebrate Chuso for the exceptional athlete she is and not have to even factor in the reality of the politics of her being from Uzbekistan (not exactly a model of liberal democracy)

Listunova qual ub and minaeva qual

Listuniva, Basically the tokyo set but w a full-in and nabieva-like legs on it too

The fall is not THAT scary i felt, she can’t quite hold on to the nabieva and falls on her back

As usual someone wants to play up the drama by labeling it scary.

Batrona’s was one of the better ones (perhaps because it was after a break? I didn’t see her qualifying routine) but it’s still a meh skill.

Right!

They made the Shap backswing a 0.5 if you didn’t work out of it. I can’t see how an orphan swing half getting the same compositional deduction is any different (except for the fact that the whole Russian team does it and the WTC haven’t been known to penalise anything remotely “Russian” in style…)

If all the Chinese were doing it, it would be a 0.5 faster than you could say Nellie Kim

I feel so out of practice, but here we go…

Memmel turn

Free leg didn’t reach full split turn position until close to 1/2 of a turn was completed. It also looks like her foot might have come off the floor since she hopped/slid over to the right → Credit as full turn with leg at horizontal (B element). I wonder if that front half vault from Chuso got layout or piked credit.

If layout, that’s the first time she’s ever done a layout front half I think. LOL

Doha BB Final

:1st_place_medal: Vladislava Urazova 13.200
:2nd_place_medal: Nora Peresztegi HUN 12.733
:3rd_place_medal: Angel Wong Hiu Ying HKG 12.333

Doha WAG FX Final

:1st_place_medal: Maria Minaeva 12.666
:2nd_place_medal: Daniela Batrona UKR 12.666
:3rd_place_medal: Dorina Böczögö HUN 12.433

Urazova did a bhs bhs again with no loso. I’m wondering if she’s actually incapable of doing a bhs loso? Because that seemed like such an obvious change to make in the off season, and I really assumed we’d see that once she got a couple of months in the gym without a major championship, yet here we still are.

Also, we aren’t talking enough about Angel Hiu Ying Wong doing competitions in her mid 30s. Did she retire and then unretire?

I wonder if that front half vault from Chuso got layout or piked credit.
It was credited as 2.21 / a front pike 1/2. (The criteria for layout is showing stretched position in the ‘stand-up’ / vertical position following repulsion and maintaining it through 60 degrees from vertical once in the ‘inverted’ position.)

I know the rules. But there’s rules and application…

Thanks for the info, though.
