Oh wow! If you forgive their falls–including the missed .2 on Listunova’s fhs + front tuck on beam–the Russian girls do come out on top, but it’s definitely very close between all the top gymnasts in the world, excluding Simone who is of course far ahead. Tokyo could be a really great competition.

Also, totally agree with your comment re: Melnikova’s beam. It was super clean aside from the fall. Urazova’s too–the only really conspicuous deduction, aside from the fall, was her slight check on the full turn.

What I really enjoyed about judging those routines yday is that I had no idea about their score breakdown. It’s very clear that some of the D score calls I made were not agreed by the Russian panel. In particular, Geramasova’s sheep on beam and switch ring 1/2 on floor. I didn’t give either abd it had a big effect on requirements.

Would love to see the D/E breakdown from Russia. It seems like their release only showed total scores. We’re breakdowns shown on the broadcast?

Remember Uzurova didn’t fall on day 2 (which is what we are judging).

But add back Listunova’s fall on beam and she’s ahead of Chiles at Winter Cup.

Personally, I had Chiles much lower but the others didn’t agree with me ha

Oh yes!! Well in that case… she is a gorgeous gymnast and if she hits I think she can be a real threat. She comes across as less reliable than Listonova though?

As a junior she seemed really steady on beam. She didn’t fall on beam at either the 2019 Russian Cup or Junior Worlds. And she has demonstrated multiple times that, even after a large balance check, she can regain composure and finish the routine with confidence.

Her falls on beam at Championships were pretty shocking to me. This is the first time she has competed her new mount series, so perhaps moving forward it’ll be more steady.

That being said, I think I’d still trust Urazova on beam in TF more than any other Russian, besides maybe Gerasimova.

This junior, Diana Kustova, looks a little like a young Aliya. Kind of moves like her. Preps for her aerials on beam like her:

Even her run reminds me of Aliya. The 3/1 is also quite Aliya-esque…I wonder if that’s what AR’s withdrawn comment referenced lol

When does she turn senior?

She’s 2007-born, so 2023. It’s worth noting her UB score in EF bested the seniors, although I think Urazova was probably cleaner. They have identical routines.

Nope, my withdrawn comment was referring to something or other in the Euro AA final and I put it in the wrong thread!

The good ol’ Russian compulsory routine lol. She seems a bit rough but I see the potential, kinda like Aliya ca. 07-08. I love that she does a cast 1/2 turn at the end but I reeeallllyy hate the Ferrari technique on her full-in.

OT, but have any updates for the 2022-24 code come out? I wonder if Russia’s preparing in the event that their signature routine construction gets further decentivized next quad? Crazy to me how it’s been nearly a decade since Aliya debuted it in London, and how innovative it was at the time.
