MyKayla Skinner Olympic participation

Unless she printed that image out on a sign and held it up on camera at some point during the Peacock documentary, then I don’t know what that has to do with her allegedly dredging up the past and being petty/tacky specifically in the Peacock documentary in 2021.

It was mentioned by her coaches in front of her. As a grown woman it is not like she wasn’t involved in conversations about it on going. Coaches still holding a grudge even bringing it up. “She missed out on 2016” not “They looked past 4th place and took 7th place” as if rankings had anything to do with it, only the top 2 were guaranteed.

You don’t think that Skinner has been fueled in her comeback by Gabby making the team over her in 2016?? LOL

What are you even talking about?

A clip was posted in this thread. Comments with the clip stated that Skinner was dredging up the past. That specifically Skinner was being very tacky and petty. This is what is being addressed.

She’s being asked by NBC about the 2016 Olympics in a documentary about gymnasts making the Olympics.

In the clip, she is shown sitting alone and says the words “I finished fourth. Who are they going to take?”

NBC then shows Douglas being announced for the team at 2016 Trials.

A single coach is then shown, sitting alone without Skinner, saying the words “Well short and sweet, they passed over number 4 and went down to number 7 and put her on the Olympic team.”

Clip ends.

Can anyone explain what MyKayla Skinner, not her coach, not NBC, what did Skinner personally say or do in this Peacock documentary made in 2021 that would lead to this comment about her actions specifically in this Peacock documentary:
“ However, I take issue with the comments her and coach made in the Peacock documentary. There is no need to dredge up stuff from the past. It shows her to be petty and very tacky. Gabby has dealt with an awful lot and does not deserve to be thrown under the bus every time MyKayla needs to vent about her devastation at not being picked for 2016.”
This doesn’t say the coach is being petty. This doesn’t say the coach is venting. It says MyKayla is doing these things in this clip.

This is what I am replying to. Then you and Doug replied to me.

I said what I said.

Skinner’s comeback was obviously fueled by Gabby making the OlympicTeam over her in 2016.

In the documentary:
She said, “I finished fourth”.
Her coach said “they passed 4th and went down to 7th and put her on the Olympic team.”

Why was finishing 4th even brought up by Skinner? Why would a coach say 4th was skipped down to 7th with the attitude that Skinner was robbed.
There is obvious tone and shade there.

If there wasn’t it would be a different narrative completely.
“I didn’t make the Olympics in 2016. I really hope to do so in 2021.”

If you don’t think that Skinner and her coaches harbor some resentment toward USAG/Gabby for 2016, I don’t what to do for you.

I don’t see why Skinner wanting to make an Olympic team is being equated to her being fueled to compete because she harbors resentment towards Gabby. Seems like a lot of time and energy…and for what? to stick it to Gabby? Maybe she just wants to go to the Olympics !

I’m not sure I follow here, is the argument that missing out to Gabby specifically is what’s made her want to come back, or just missing out full stop?

I can’t see that as being her only reason.

I think it’s more generally being left off the 2016 team, that’s been the motivation.

Although we have no idea if she would have tried a second trip even if she had made it in 2016. She might have wanted a Nadia repeat.

That’s what I think too, but I couldn’t see what was actually being argued here. I don’t believe for a second that she’d have been ok with being alternate and everything that apparently went along with it if they’d sent Locklear instead of Douglas.

Which would be fine if she were contributing to the team total. She’s not. She’s there for EFs, a medal contender but all of the EF spots are covered save for bars

Which is why any Skinner Stans can’t cry about her being put on the +1. Riley was made for that spot and Skinner was LUCKY to be given it.

I still don’t get any argument about any unfairness towards Skinner. The “highest scoring team” bullshit relies on Suni doing floor - because Skinner is so shit on floor, despite being incredibly overscored, that she STILL can’t outscore the bars specialist with a 3-pass watered down routine.

The more I think about it, the more I think Wong should have been chosen for Grace’s spot, and Riley should have been chosen for Skinner’s spot. But the events of Day 2 and the emotion of the build up led us to all rely on the numbers alone.

A cool head would have put Riley in the +1 and then have had a good hard look at Grace v Wong for the last spot on the main team.

I do also wonder whether Tom felt the pressure to name Skinner in the light of her substantial social media following.

Was she allowed to do all that Home Chef bullshit on her Channel anyway?

Why wouldn’t she be allowed? It didn’t have to do with gymnastics.

Would be the same as if she had a job working register at a pizza place.

Like Worley modeling as a kid, they could have jobs and get paid as long as it wasn’t to do with their sport / sport image.

ETA: Jordan Chiles’ clothing line is allowed the same way, it’s just selling clothes, not gymn related.

Not surprising at all. I think there was a good chance of this even if she didn’t make the team, but the +1 solidified it.
