Because Jennifer Sey broke her femur in 1985.
That doesn't explain why they're basically spotting gymnasts through every skill these days. For a long time coaches only stood there for tkatchevs that went towards the low bar. Now they're standing there for pak saltos and dismount. It's ridiculous and unnecessary.

during an ncaa meet the coach was literally blocking the judges view and I was so confused on how that is allowed

There's going to be a rather large number of gymnasts tonight who won't even score the 50.00 they needed to qualify for this meet.

Pretty much all the established gymnasts are retired or in NCAA, so we've got a group of fresh meat who haven't been to any major competitions (save for Rivera). Especially since many became senior in an Olympic year where none of them were going to break into the top tier.
And frankly, Rivera's one major competition had her with no counting scores for the team and benched for team finals.

This is a pretty rough showing with none of the newer seniors here showing that they're ready to become a big name in the quad, and all the more established ones having never made any major teams. It's not a good start to the quad.

I wonder if they’ll rethink this meet going forwards. With so many elites now competing in college, it’s lost its relevance. Definitely they could make it junior and seniors combined

I just don’t see the value in this meet? What does it tell USAG about their athletes? Does it benefit any of the athletes?

I think the new seniors are also the first generation of gymnasts to not have gone through the Marta regime, so we're seeing the results. Better than them being ground up at the Ranch, but yeah, they're not looking as tight or ready.

Very nice night for Ashlee Sullivan, though. It's nice to see her coming back into her own; I was really becoming a big fan of hers prior to her big injury. I hope this is the start of some momentum for her.

I think that is exactly right. We are now really starting to see WAG sans Marta. I am not going to add the obvious . . . .

Zoey Molomo just scared the shit out of me. She did a toe on on the low bar and peeled off. Somehow managed to basically do a flyway and land on her feet, but Jesus did that freak me out initially.

This is only the 4th Winter Cup for WAG ever lol.
