Looking at our scores, compared to USAG scores - we are consistently 5-7 tenths lower on beam and floor. Unless your name is Alipio.

WHATDOYAKNOW!

I think we can all agree that the 8.2 E for Frazier on floor was FUCKING LAUGHABLE.

I didn’t have DiCello much lower either tho! I think a lot of the splat routines we found far splattier than USAG.

When our highest score on floor for Frazier was 7.6, which was thrown out for being too high, the 8.2 is just an absolute joke.

What was Suni’s E Score on Floor when she won the Olympics?

Frazier definitely top 3 on floor
I mean, yeah. Ahead of Alipio, Greaves and Konnor splatting. Nothing to really write home about.

And Yes. Konnor’s E on floor definitely was too. I feel like its slightly more acceptable to have a huge range when the score is in the 5s than in the 7s though.

Did you guys take hand support for Greave’s vault? I did but I couldn’t really tell.

I feel like Konnor’s issues are largely more fixable, gymnastics-wise, than Fraziers.

Konnor really could be an absolutely wonderful gymnast. She has a real Flavia-esque look to her gymnastics which I love.

I liked most of Frazier’s leaps/jumps on BB. She made them look more effortless than most do. I liked a few of them on FX too. Her UB is a hard no and her tumbles seem to lack exact shape which makes them look messy. To the untrained eye, she isn’t all that bad though. If she could get a bit of Konnor’s carriage though… DiCello is solid but not spectacular, Wong, generally the same, but yeah, Konnor has that something that if she can get it together could be special.

I am assuming Worlds is under last quad rules, right? Otherwise all those triple to double wolf turns would be gone.

Konnor can’t even get through a meet without falling ever. Everything with her is ‘potential’. Leannes gymnastics is textbook in my opinion and Kayla is consistent, consistent, consistent but not flashy.

I honestly would only go with 3 AAers.
This just seems counterproductive to me, especially given that one of the AAers would have to be Frazier. Which nobody wants. What are we actually trying to achieve with this, other than seeing if an American can get a sub 7 E score for a hit bars set?

The US have had some nasty surprises from judges in recent competitions. They need to get gymnasts out in front of international panels more, not less. They have the opportunity to send four to worlds, in a situation where the top three are all likely to be in college next year. I understand arguments about readiness from Konnor, but if that’s the case then use Olivia instead.

It’s not like there isn’t precedent for Tom avoiding rank order in major competition either. 2019 worlds was hardly that, with 6th place from camp doing AA over 3rd. The man’s clearly no strategist, and I think for example there was never any way he wasn’t going to take Frazier after her finishing second, but it’s not a universal standard. What he generally does is go with the most obvious option.

I would hope they’ll have the sense to use DiCello and Wong only in the AA, because you want to make sure Leanne doesn’t get 2 per’d out from falling. Then Konnor needs to do beam, eMjae can do floor and they can divvy the remaining two routines up however they wish.

Is there any point either of the non-AAers vaulting if they don’t have a 2nd vault?

Assuming the AAers are Kayla and Leanne, arguably more so for Konnor, as she’s the one most likely to be doing the event for for the US in TFs in the future. It would also make sense for the specialists to focus on their EF chances if they wanted to though.

If you’re gonna put Konnor up on beam, you might as well just have her do AA.

Frazier would not have come 2nd if Tokyo judges were scoring that Camp. Gymnaverse Panel had her in 3rd; with Leanne spanking her despite counting a fall and a 0.3 neutral deduction for not remounting in time.

ETA: and I know it’s unfair - but you give Konnor her falls back and she would have almost won.

Do any of the rumoured World’s team have 2 vaults?
Yes.

eMjae Frazier has a second vault, she was planning on doing it day 2, since day 1 was AA, they weren’t able to do a second vault. Not sure if it actually happened, since the selection committee chose the two events. It makes sense Frazier did FX and VT though as she won’t be doing beam.

Konnor McClain had a Tsuk layout full at one point, but probably too soon for her to bring it back.
I wonder if Wong will attempt the Cheng she had been training at one point. Heck with her normal DTY and a Lopez she would be in contention for a medal.

Frazier actually has a pretty fantastic ring position on beam. I know I rake on her form but she has a pretty weird range of execution errors. Lovely ring but can’t do a back handspring.

I took a tenth for each BHS on floor and I would hope the Tokyo judges will too.
