The fact that posting pics of her body as it actually exists for the gaze of online spectators is one thing, but to alter it to further perpetuate impossible physical ideals is another lol, yikes. I guess I'm super naive about these things but I thought she was at least posting real pictures! I hate this

The guardian article is fairly coherent and informed, even nuanced, and Dunne is clearly not an idiot. I for one, would much rather hear commentary from Hu on the value of a ten as it relates to her career, mastery of an event, and performance on a less competitive team, without the platform afforded to Dunne clouding the commentary. I agree with @QuietColours. It is so frustrating that shes the one with platform that even allows for these conversations to be entertained or articles to be written.

Nobody has ever believed that the Body Issue" has to do with sports. It has everything to do with sexualizing young women. The women who allow themselves to be exploited in that way have Stockholm Syndrome. And USAG and NCAA and the coaches and parents are complicit.

I think the key line in all that is "Basically, [a routine scoring 10] was good SEO". Casual observers are more likely to look at something that's been branded officially "perfect".

Also good for SEO: the three pictures of Dunne that the Guardian snuck into that story (four if you include the one plugging another piece about her).

Livvy Dunne’s bid to buy Yankees legend’s $1.59M home was denied: ‘I’m just disappointed’

By Bridget Hyland

Former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne revealed this week that she was rejected from purchasing Yankees legend Babe Ruth’s former New York City home.

Dunne shared the story in a TikTok video on Tuesday, explaining that she was prepared to buy the $1.59 million Upper West Side home in cash.

“I wanted this apartment bad,” she said.

But Dunne explained that the co-op board rejected her application.

“I get a call. The co-op board denied me,” she said. “Pretty much the people in the building voted to not have me live there, which is fine.”
Dunne said that her boyfriend, Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes, had hired an interior designer for the apartment.

“It got to the point where the realtor was so confident, Paul and I went, I got an interior designer because I didn’t want to bring my college furniture to Babe Ruth’s apartment, that would be like, criminal,” Dunne said.

Dunne said she had “no clue” why she was denied.

“Maybe they didn’t want a public figure living there, but I was literally supposed to get the keys and that week they denied me,” she said.

“I’m just disappointed that’s all,” Dunne wrote in the caption of the TikTok video.

I needed a good laugh today. Thanks for sharing.

You know, I can't imagine that having a public figure announce she wants to live in your building would cause people to feel uncomfortable at all
Maybe if she'd just kept it private there wouldn't have been all the concern
Yeah, but she's a professional exhibitionist. She's pathologically incapable of keeping anything to herself.

I wouldn’t want to live next door to her either but I do think it’s a bit weird and open to abuse that residents of a building get to vote on who moves in.
That's how co-op boards work, though. Potential residents have to go through a rigorous application process, including an interview. Even if I didn't know who Livvy Dunne was, I'd vote against her as soon as she opened her mouth.
