My niece (7) has been doing gymnastics for just over a month now. Watching her in class made me realize that I would love to coach lower levels (1 - 5). I helped the younger kids in a rec class in my teenage years, but that was some time ago.

Can anyone recommend materials for a new coach? I'm especially interested in teaching proper technique and fitness.

Are you talking recreational classes or competitive gymnastics?

Either way... the best way is through experience. Learn as needed as you go. I would just apply for a job and start with whatever training they give you. For example... here is a club that provides a great little curriculum for the coaches to follow...

One of my personal favorite sites is Al Fong's site...

It's a bit difficult to navigate... but once you figure it out... it's great.

As far as the ultimate resource... it's the interweb. From Youtube to following Instagram accounts that you like... it's all out there... except experience... you gotta jump in to get more of that.

Recreational. My dream would probably be to coach older beginners. I feel like a lot of times they get ignored because everyone assumes they don't want to compete. I'd love to give everybody good basics, whether they decide to move to team or not.

And thank you!
