Do the gymnasts have immediate access to their artistry scores? Because I think it's wild that WTC would introduce this extremely consequential set of new deductions and then basically hide that result from the athletes who would stand to learn and improve from their scores? Even if the answer is 'yes' (for the athletes), I feel like it's hard to justify why the scoring isn't released during competition for the benefit of the audience/commentators at least. It feels very much like FIG isn't confident that those scores would stand up to scrutiny and is intentionally obfuscating them within the E score.
Surprising absolutely no one!

There were so many issues with OOB deductions on floor in Paris. I just found another one.

ETA: She would have easily made EF if she hadn’t fallen on the DLO. 12.7 with a fall.

If Melanie had made floor final, chances are Voinea would now be bronze medalist, since Ana Barbosu qualified joint eighth.
Conversely, MJDS could have saved us from the whole fiasco by hitting in the final. As could any number of gymnasts, sigh. I said it at the time but the judges were giving Chiles the gold medal with a hit routine. So many competitors in that final seemed so exhausted.

Definitely. That was Jordan's for the taking.

And yes, the collective exhaustion. It's one of the reasons I really hope the mixed team event in LA is more flexible than it was at Euros. Several of the gymnasts in the floor final are the ones who'd have been their national qualifiers for mixed team had it been in operation, and they did not look like they had another day of competition in them.

The other reason is to see more Andrade!

I mean - surely it was Biles' for the taking?! She had like a billion out of bounds, got absolutely destroyed on artistry, was downgraded a leap which they gave to others - and she still basically won.

It was Simone that completely threw that final gold medal away.
Jordan competed after Simone, so the stage was very much set for her to take it. I think @RichardL and I are both referring to that? Obviously Simone had the highest potential score if she hit, though it wasn't remotely surprising she eventually OOB'd herself out of a title. Really the only thing that shocked me about Simone not winning was what a low score it took to beat her. If you'd told me beforehand that Andrade would win floor, that wouldn't have raised an eyebrow but I'd have expected her to need closer to mid 14s.

Agree with MC that it was a pretty good outcome for Simone in the circumstances.

On the flipside of this, I still wonder what Ana would have scored with the clean 2.5 + 1/1 from quals and the smooth triple wolf from the team final (rather than the double with a precision deduction). It's impossible to know as E scores are so bunched into the same range with inadequate separation, but she's already at 13.900 with the objective 0.2 from 0.1 SV and no 0.1 out of bounds, before accounting for the deductions each came with. You can easily get to 14.1-14.2 from 13.9, but again this is easy to say retrospectively

The thing that shook me the most was how they gradually raised her artistry deductions over the course of the meet, and gradually dropped Rebeca's. Wasn't there like, almost 3 tenths on average between them, just on artistry? Use any of her artistry deductions in QF, TF or AA, and she would have won EF even with all the OOBs.

That’s because she didn’t actually perform the routine at all in ef . It was total going through the motions. Understandable in the circumstances, but no where close to the performance she is capable of.

Yeah, after the beam fall and non-salute bull, you could see she was over it. If it had been 2016, I would have expected her to fight back harder, but in 2024, she had nothing to prove (except apparently, to all the people/bots on the facebook videos of her routines who whine "she never sticks anything" as if we are back in 1972).

Maybe I can see a tenth better for Andrade in finals? Her qualification performance was a little stiffer and maybe the landings made it "came off" a little more discombobulated.

...Which is NOT how artistry deductions should be assessed. Yet judges are human and all that jazz...

I think the general consensus I saw at the time was that her QF floor was scored pretty loosely
