No, I don't like Gogean but this arm-waving half-akimbo marathon isn't it either

ETA:

I do like this better. Btw very good clapping by this audience, adjusting after the accelerando before the second line

You're right.

I suppose audiences took their clapping duties more seriously in the days before they needed one hand for a smartphone at all times.

I'm a sucker for that Zorba routine but I remember thinking that Produnova should have won. It was the only routine that worlds where she controlled the double pike and her tumbling variety was better than Gogean's. Haven't watched it in a while and I suspect it was the coyboying/let's give Gogean a retirement send off that did her in. I guess the BB EF takes up most of the result frustration from that worlds as I've not see FX talked about much in the decades since.

I always like Produnova (and I love the audible whoop from the crowd at the end of her third tumbling pass here).

I'd have given it silver over Khorkina very happily, but I can see arguments for Gogean's gold still. Neither has great dance here, and Gogean shows more flexibility and better amplitude. You can't fault her tumbling, even if it's fun to see Produnova doing something different.

Also, they had a nice festive atmosphere, happy crowd, little bit of a retirement do, Gina cracking a smile at one point on the sidelines ... were they going to throw all that away by giving another Russian gymnast gold over Khorkina? Have you ever watched the reaction to Zamo's win in Sydney?

Produnova should've beaten Gogean, it was a more difficult routine and better presentation too. Any complaints about her cowboying the front double saltos is nullified by Gogean's lackluster execution on a couple of those dance elements.

Khorkina had the most artistic routine and should beat Gogean objectively IMO, but for some reason was given 10.0 start all season when it was only 9.9 according to the code. Her straight jump 1.5 needed to be tucked to get C value and earn bonus with the connected shushunova. We all know she could have done it tucked, and I'm happy she didn't because it looks better this way, but she doesn't have a 10 going by the book.

Meng Fei was nice but I need more facial expression. A couple of her transitional movements were also clunky. Like after she does the shushunova 1/1, she just pauses and stares at the floor for a moment.

In the WTC presentations on the 2025 - 2028 COP, Ruby Pass's floor routine is used as an example of directly connected dance elements (Switch Leap + Tour Jete 1/2) which would fulfill the CR.
I did not get that memo, that's good! Although there's still no specific benefit to doing it this way if judges aren't going to properly deduct on artistry for leap passages with clunky/unmusical inbetween movements.
