Just rewatched, and you're right! Also, watching Roberson cheering her on in the video (even rushing to the other diagonal to cheer for her again) when Carey was claiming the only spot Roberson had a chance to take for herself definitely endeared me more to Roberson.
I cannot stand her gymnastics. But everything I’ve seen of Joscelyn as person, she comes across as a really great kid. I don’t think her gymnastics is a result of her personality like with Skinner.

I don’t think the Landis were the ideal choice for her as they don’t really have experience of working with athletes with such poor foundation.

Artistry deductions on FX from Paris have been (apparently) leaked.

Divide each total by 7. That’s your average artistry deduction, per judge (5 x E Panel and 2 x R Panel).

So floor artistry was decisive for team bronze - Brazil was .2 ahead of Great Britain, with a floor artistry advantage of about .7 as well as event final gold and bronze. That seems reasonable in all cases, but the differences in scores are greater than I'd thought.

I was just coming here to post about this being the difference between team bronze and 4th. Course Kinsella’s UB dismount, Evans’ VT and Downie’s BB all could have swung it the other way on a given day as well (Brazil also had mistakes).

I wonder if coaches (from multiple countries) will take note and do even more artistry work..

That choreographer could have come up with a routine that ticked every artistry box the WTC came up with, but that fact is Simone simply isn't capable of performing her choreo in a way that doesn't result in a bunch of deductions.

That said, US choreography is pretty bad, and the situation is worsened by gymnasts who have little training in the finer points of performing choreography. Some of them have looked flat out bored.

Kathy Johnson weeps.
