If all three happen, or if 2 and 3 (but not 1) happen, I’d have Jess, Jen, Becky and Ellie.

If 1 happens, but not 2 or 3, then I’d have Amelie in the 4th spot, over GMF.

If 2 happens, but not 1 or 3, I’d have Becky go in the 4th spot, over GMF.

If 3 happens, but not 1 or 2, I’d have Ellie go in the 4th spot, over GMF.

If 1 and 2, but not 3 happens, I’d have Jen, Jess, Amelie and Becky (sorry betch).

Yes - we all seem to agree Jess Gad is a lock.
It’s also difficult not to take Alice. Though when she is chosen the kid is going to get some trolling so she maybe needs to come off social media for a while.

The other 2 and the alternate(s) are all what if situations.

I’m gutted that my dream team of Double Downies and Gadirova Twins is looking unlikely but my inner gymnastics child is so excited about the current state of British WAG. When did we ever think there would be so much difficulty in choosing an GB Olympic team?

It’s kinda insane that there’s a plausible GB team that could have three gymnasts competing two vaults. If Jennifer gets back to pre-injury someone could even get two-pared out of VT EF. That’s a real turn up from a team that was thrilled to have DTY first vaults not that long ago. The depth is a good but agonising problem to have. It certainly feels different to other years and that’s not just because of the small team size.

Sigh GB could have a wonderful 6-3-3 team (if you assume 2019 or training video Downies).

Surely they’ve gotta take Becky. She can do a routine that’s almost guaranteed a medal if she hits. Per the stated criteria, I can’t see how you leave her off if you’ve watched that video on her Twitter.

There ya go. Three double fulls. Becky, Alice and Jess on bars. Alice, Jen and Jess on floor. And any of them on beam.

Ellie can’t expect to be picked as she’s not showed anything! That Cheng wasn’t even into mats. Rest up for Worlds and go for the world vault title. That should be a huge incentive.

Sucks for GMF, Amelie and Odine but tell them that, barring any changes, they’re on the Worlds team with Ellie.

For MAG I think James, Joe and Giarnni are all locks. Clearly the top 3 AA.

Then there’s a difficult decision between taking Max or taking a fourth AAer. I think they’ll go with Max. He got a 15.35 in the final trial on pommel.

I think Courtney is shit outta luck. Youd take Brinn over him. Only 6 ish tenths worse on rings but you get way more events. Plus Brinn came second in the final trial (though Joe nor Giarnni completed AA).

Brinn beat Dom in the AA which basically puts Dom out of contention.

I could live with this team. I’d be much more upset if Becky is left off than Ellie. There are persistent rumours about the Gadirova’s training Amanars (thinking more Jessica atm given Jennifer’s injury) so that could negate Ellie’s Cheng advantage, especially since she hasn’t been showing floor. Ellie is definitely a bigger question mark than Becky given the scores and videos available to joe public.

Agree about James, Joe, Giarnni and Max being the team. Max is a risk but, as I think I said upthread, GB MAG are much more likely to win a PH medal with Max than a TF without him (or with him for that matter). GB isn’t going to be only team struggling with the third score on four person teams and those AAders are pretty well balanced. It’s worth the risk. I think the reigning Olympic champion, reigning world champion, still capable of a 6.8/7 D and on a team without realistic team medal chances is the best placed one event specialist in a top 12 country you can have. Be a brave selector to leave him off.

I’m unconvinced that Becky is a good option. She isn’t a medal guarantee. Lee, Derwael and Fan Yilin are all in contention for medals. I would feel better about taking her if she was more consistent.

Overall, the results are surprising and I don’t quite know what to make of it all.

She isn’t a guarantee, although Fan Yilin is looking beatable. But she’s currently the nearest thing GB have. It’s also to Becky’s advantage that nobody else is doing anything more than scratching the low 14s on her best day. What she provides is something that nobody else gets close to.

Because I would weight Euro perfomance which is a real competition higher than a trial.
