Georgia-Mae Fenton with falls on bars and beam so far. Becky Downie fell on beam. Amelie Morgan scored 12.25 (5.5D, 6.75E) on bars, so probably another fall?

Achampong got 8.6E (14.7 total) on beam, so the scoring is on the generous side..

The scoring is insane on bb .... if you stay on which few are doing.

GMF fell twice on bb and underrotated her dismount but got away with mid 11s

The arena scoreboard seems to be malfunctioning though - none of the women have shown a ranking above 22nd ... I think they must not be separating WAG from MAG who are 2 rotations ahead,

Just now the scoreboard declared both Courtney Tulloch and Joe Fraser to be ranked #1 - yet there were 4 full points between their scores.

Looks like it's turning into quite the afternoon. Becky has chosen a very good time to deliver a hit bars set!

On the WAG side that was underwhelming and an utter shitshow at times.

Disappointed not to see Downie’s FX live. Floor as a whole was pretty meh. E scores were all over the place with some panels feeling like international standard and other being uber generous (Jarman 9.0 E score HB and Achampong’s BB as already noted).

Tulloch impressed me most today. He must have heard me peg him as alternate!

Ondine won, obviously. Ruby Evans second and Abigail Martin 3rd, and Ruby hits the qualifying AA score too. GMF splatted. Becky won bars with 14.35, fell off beam and scratched floor. Amelie continues to look useful on beam, where she was 2nd, but her bars aren't up to the same standard.

A lot of mess today but I’m impressed with Ondine. Overscored as it was, that was still a world class BB routine that would probably make a world final. She scored 13.9 in the Antwerp team final and that felt better to me. She has also finally found a UB routine that she can manage without being physically gassed by the dismount. Probably her best AA performance of her career in terms of pure quality.

Assuming Kinsella doesn’t have a serious injury, I think the team is

Achampong AA
Kinsella AA
Evans VT FX
Downie UB
Fenton/Morgan (UB?) BB

After Fenton’s catastrophic performance today, I think Morgan is in the lead and I’d certainly take her to Euros to give her an international assignment/see how she fares. Fenton needs to bounce back spectacularly well tomorrow.

I feel like GMF is in danger of not making the Olympic team. She’s fallen in basically every DSE, I think. It’s a real shame, as she’s such a lovely gymnast.

I think as much as the falls the problem for GMF is Achampong's improvement on bars. Despite falling today I don't think anyone else has done enough to be picked over GMF for bars, but if GB don't desperately need another bars worker...

I'd like to see Fenton, Morgan, Downie, Evans and Martin again before selection. I doubt they'll leave Achampong or Kinsella off the Euros team if fit but from a selection point of view I think we know they're going to Paris barring injury.

Euros is a team format again, isn’t it? I wonder if BG will prioritise trying to defend their team title in that case.

Agree.

While it's not ideal, there's nothing to prevent them planning for a bars lineup of Alice, Ondine and Becky. Then Ruby can be VT/FX and they could take probably Amelie as a beam specialist for the 5th. This assumes Alice is ok of course. If she's not, nobody can be ruled out.

Honestly, does Becky still need to be training floor at this point? I'm glad she's put together some very difficult tumbles, but it seems like having her as a 4th/5th option is not worth the risk.

I'd be a bit surprised if they don't send the best team. The selection criteria say it's a performance event with medal targets. But if they do that it's a bit pointless having it as the last selection event for Paris.

Good to see Ondine putting together a good competition even if overscored

GMF had a terrible day - 12s on ub, 2 falls on bb and watered down after scary warm up on vt. I happened to be watching the live stream and GMF had a really, really scary VT warm-up attempting a DTY (much worse than Listy's at Russian nats). I really thought she'd hurt herself. She looked really shaken and watered down to a FTY in the competition.

Amelie looked really confident on bb which could be a good thing as GB is always really shaky on bb.

Becky had a good ub - I liked her bb (excepting the fall). Glad Becky didn't do fx

Charlotte Booth didn't do well apart from a decent vt

Nope.

But the selection criteria and also recent history create an incentive for athletes to add more events. One can see why Becky would feel she needed to add an event. I recall @MaryClare talked after worlds about GMF being disadvantaged by the AA focus. We may be seeing that continue to play out now.

Becky's floor does have potential, and on a younger athlete with fewer injuries, it would be a shame to see her give it up. But for her, in 2024, the pounding isn't worth the risk.
