I watched Giulia Perroti's UB, BB, and FX from the Italian Championships. She has some good skills and a very nice performance quality. I couldn't find a recent V, but she could be in the mix with a DTY or even a semi-decent FTY.

I don't think that Perrotti has a DTY. But maybe.

Based on scores so far this year, we probably should include Anna Kalmykova in the list of contenders. I've never seen her and have no idea how reflective her scores are of reality, but she's posted high enough scores to pay attention to.

I already did. :-)

Leanne Wong...

I actually don't see her being as high a contender as some of you do.

:vt: The new Cheng could help but I think it's a big wildcard — she hit it at US Nationals, but it was a couple inches from being a fall. It lacks height.
:ub: Has she ever broken 14 internationally? (She got close at US Nationals in August, and I think she has in the past in the US, right?)
:bb: Except the dismount, it's a very "typical" set. Nothing is bad, but nothing is brilliant.
:fx: She used to do more — whip + triple full, 2.5 + front full. But this scores almost as well due to the way gymnastics judging punishes athletes who do overall good, hard stuff vs. easier very clean stuff.

I feel like she gets around 13.8 on every apparatus except vault, where it could go maybe as high as 14.8? That totals 56.2 if she hits the Cheng. We already have seen higher potential — a lot higher, in the case of Neymour.

It'll be interesting to see Wong at the camp. I believe she warmed up the 2.5 to front 1/1 at Nationals, but ultimately didn't compete it--I think that was alluded to in her making the hard decision not to compete some things. She only did the Cheng once. Her vault the first day didn't look as good, but I think I was influenced by the fact I was reading the Shannon Miller chapter about how much trouble she had getting the power right for an easier vault in competition when she was training a hard one, and felt justified when Leanne brought out the Cheng on Day 2.

She (and Josc) have had a couple more months now to build back to elite routines--more reps on the harder skills, having had a little rest and time to build endurance from the NCAA season. I would expect both of them to be doing a little more at Camp than they chose to do at Nationals. While I'm sure they both wanted to do as well as they could at Nationals, the primary goal there would have been making sure they qualified to the selection camp and didn't give the NT staff reasons to doubt them, not to be at their best.

I don't see Wong as a gold medal favorite without mistakes by others for the same reasons as Denn points out, especially if Melnikova (who should be besting Wong considerably on bars and should be around her scoring potential on the other events) is also competing a Cheng. Would be very funny if they go 1-2 again just like four years ago, though!

Melnikova's telegram (via google translate) said she's preparing a 6.0 floor and a 5.6 vault. Her instagram stories showed a full twisting double layout opening pass and double layout second pass.
Her vaults from Russian Championships day 1.

I feel heard. ;) 🤣
She's still doing that front full, which is a pit of deductions. Sigh. Not sure if she will upgrade to a full-twisting double layout, but it adds a lot to the D-score because she then moves the double layout to a second pass. I wish she would replace the dismount with front to double back or something.
