I blame it on the damn Hopes program. These gyms are pushing girls into Hopes as level 8s and not really doing the development program, which was the intention. Instead of easing into elite while at the same time excelling in the develop program, they're skipping DP. You cannot be a great level 10 without a great KCH. Yet so many of these girls skip level 10 or just do a couple meets here and there while their coaches have them throwing as much difficulty as possible with the most garbage fucking basics. (coughRobersonCough)

If they all had to go through DP level 10 and qualify to nationals before they could test elite, things would look VERY different.
It’s crazy. They’re doing shap 1/2s, and back uprise to tkatchev, before they can barely get over the bar on a blind change.

Re: the depth issue, the LN scandal was 8-9 years ago. I thinks it’s pretty safe to say that a lot of parents took their girls out of gymnastics at that time or didn’t put them in it to begin with, and rightfully so. It would make sense that a severely depleted talent pool would lead to a lack of depth.
But there isn’t a lack of depth at L10/college recruits. I wonder if more gymnasts are choosing to stay at L10 due to the popularity of NCAA.

Catherine Guy is interesting. She was at Gedderts as a little one, tried to qualify elite. In 2022 she was with Capital City (which is what Gedderts became) and finished 11th at level 10 nationals. A month later she's at Gym X-Treme and gets her Hopes score. A few months later she ends up a Buckeye.

She did well as a level 10 in 2023, repeating her 11th place at nationals. Managed to qualify junior elite but didn't make it past Classics. Moved up to senior elite in 2024, didn't qualify. Switched to Twin City Twisters in summer 2024, then shortly after followed Sarah Jantzi to Pacific Reign. Her improvement has been significant. It will be interesting to watch her the rest of this year.

Systems that that are healthy for the gymnasts, both mentally and physically, and that do NOT allow people to skip the basics could work. However, they take a lot more effort, empathy and imagination than whipping the kids into submission and pushing them until they’re too injured or mentally screwed up to continue. I’d rather lose some medals than to destroy lives. Let’s hope that the USAG coaches &/or staff figure it out.

Five gyms within 3 years is definitely something .
