Wow. LSU just seemed to get their groove back after losing Kiya Johnson.
KJ is integral to the VT and FX line ups and she had just broken back into the floor lineup.

YIKES!

Injured pelvis or something. Not season ending but a couple of weeks

Not surprised, LSU has been riding those girls from the first meet. Hopefully Bryant stays healthy. I dont think Jay has sat anyone for any routine

Breaking your foot during a celebration is painfully on brand for NCAA.

This opens the door to the night session a bit for UK I think.

KJ was in and out of the beam line up, but more likely that was not for resting, but rather she was shaky in warm ups or one touch. Clark will change his line-up last minute, but he’s not the only coach that has begun doing that.

LSU has been plagued with injuries. Olivia Dunne is looking like she is out for the season. We haven’t see anything from Annie Beard so I assume she is injured as she is a former elite and was capable of being an all arounder for the team. Cammy Hall was out before the season began, and AFAIK Bryce Wilson hasn’t been back since becoming concussed on her beam dismount a few weeks back. Kai Rivers has been injured her entire career and is only able to do beam. Tori Tatum has also been plagued by injuries, and just recently got back into the line up on bars only.

Honestly, the MVP has to be Elena Arenas who has stepped into various line ups in various positions. She has become a consistency the team needs, and it didn’t look like she would be the all arounder she is pre-season.

When it comes down to it, LSU just does not have the all around depth when you look at the various gymnasts carrying injuries or are limited to being a one event gymnast.

Unlike an Oklahoma, Michigan, California, Auburn, and Florida who are loaded with all arounders that can step in on any event at any time PLUS have specialists that can give a solid routine to boost a line up.

Granted Florida just has an abundance of talent (and Trinity) because they have their fair share of injuries/ not physically 100% (Hurd, McCusker, Lazzari, Schoenherr, Clapper)

It does make me question Jay Clark and his ability to be a head coach at a major program and keep his athletes healthy. Or is it just that he’s been unlucky?

I think a bit of both, injuries are going to happen, I mean KJ celebrating breaking foot, Savs going down a flight of stairs breaking a foot, etc. And definitely competing so many meets in sequence everyone is going to have sprains and aches. But I am going to put Kiya injury on him. There was no reasonable explanation that an accomplished senior with a history of bad ankles/achilles would need to be doing all-around in those early meets. Really, winning the SEC is nice, but at the end of the day its about pacing to nationals.
