Illinois freshman Ruthu Nataraj will be representing India at the Asian championships. She did gymnastics with my sister. She moved from India to Connecticut in 4th grade and it’s been nice to watch her grow from a L4 to an ncaa-caliber gymnast.

Will russian teams be allowed to compete?
I mean or they will be banned as a political punishment regarding Russia/Ukraine war

Full team qualification is only through Euros, but they do have some individuals who would be in qualification spots from the world cup series if they weren’t banned.

From information supplied on the African championships thread for which I take no credit, the team berths for both MAG and WAG go to Egypt.

The WAG individuals are Rooskrantz and Daries from South Africa (no surprise there) plus Boukhatem and Salem from Algeria.

This will also have an impact on the world cup qualification standings as both South Africans had already likely qualified through that route as individuals. So that would put Borg and Yerbossynkyzy in for bars, then Kysselef and Belak for beam if I’m right that Slovenia won’t be top 13.

Salem was likely to get in on bars as well, and Yerbossynkyzy qualified at Asian Championships.

There’s a significant possibilty that the bars list will end up with less than eight eligible people when all the continental qualifications are finished.

37 gymnasts scored points. 4 are currently banned. 6 have earned AA spots at Asian/African/Oceania championships. 1 is from Egypt with a qualified team. 17 are from France/Netherlands/Germany/Canada/Brazil/Spain/Hungary/Romania/Ukraine who would be favoured to qualify teams. The remaining nine include several who could qualify at Euros.

Points for 11th and 12th at the Doha World Cup went unclaimed as only 10 competed on bars. Just showing up there could have been enough to qualify to Worlds. 10th place scored just 8.366 and will probably qualify.

So we are not seeing for some of these underdeveloped countries, it might be best to forgo continentals completely and just attend the World Cup. Much less competition, though more expensive. But it almost guarantees Worlds.

I hope that they amend this after these Worlds and see just how it impacts. MAG and WAG can be different depending. I wouldn’t mind seeing 4 per event for the women. They can either reallocate the other 16 spots to continental AA or add one or two teams spots to Worlds. I wouldn’t mind seeing two more teams out of Europe or one more from Europe and one more from Americas.

Can someone explain why the US world trials are 20-23th October, when they are expected to be in Liverpool on either 25th (sub 1-2) and 26 (sub 3-10).
  • Trials, travelling and jet lag to start with.
  • Podium training is on 27th (sub 1-2) and 26th (sub 3-10)
  • Qualifications are either 29th or 30th
  • Team final is 1st November
  • All around is 3rd November
  • Vault and Bars 5th
  • Beam and floor 6th
This can’t be good for the athletes.

The World Team leaves right from camp to Worlds. You are incorrect though, first day qualifications is October 29, not the 25th.

This has been the norm for decades now. USA meets at camp and then heads off to Worlds/Olympics.

In 2021, Worlds Selection Camp was October 7-10, the team left from TX on October 11.
World Championships began October 13.

In 2019, World Selection Camp was September 21-26. They left for Worlds on September 29 and Worlds started on October 4.

Thanks, I haven’t been following gymnastics that long and wasn’t sure if that what they normally do. Does the official arrival of the delegations not mean that they are expected to be in Liverpool on or before that dates?

That is when they are allowed to arrive. But the athletes can be delayed.
Officiants, judges, TC members, and head of delegation are expected to be there on these specific days for meetings and what not.

Hell, it might not even be that much more expensive depending on the locations of the gymnast concerned, the world cups and the continentals. You could probably get away with just going to two world cups in a number of cases, though I accept that’s a gamble.

He didn’t say first day of qualifications was on the 25th!
Again, you seem to have not read the part where I stated that technically, gymnasts don’t have to be there until qualifications. They don’t even have to attend podium training. I think as long as they are there to get credentialed before competition begins they are fine, but I don’t recall. Trying to think of the alternate that was flown in last minute and arrived after podium training.

Update now all the qualification events have finished for the women.

The 24 full teams:

Those were the 24 highest scores across the continental championships, so no one got screwed over by the continental quotas.

Four teams who were at 2019 worlds will be missing. Russia, North Korea, Switzerland and Czech Republic, replaced by Finland, Taiwan, Austria and Sweden.

Thegymter.net also has a full list of individual qualifiers. I assume at some point the FIG will publish their own list which will hopefully be the same.

Only four of the uneven bars World Cup spots are used, and only seven of the beam spots. Alexandra Shametko of Kazakhstan qualifies to compete on bars, and bars only, as a result of a score of 8.366 in Doha - she placed last, but as there were so few entries everyone scored points. At Baku you needed a score in the 12s to get points, so multiple gymnasts scored higher than Shametko but won’t qualify because they went to the wrong World Cup (no one who actually ended up needing the points scored any on bars in Baku). And Filipa Martins won’t be there because she didn’t go to any World Cups.

Unfortunately relevant after today, first reserve if a European AA qualifier pulls out will be Brygida Urbanska of Poland.
