If she gets really high, they probably can see how far apart they are, since at this comp they were sitting under the bars.

The FIG declined to include Heath Thorpe’s leap into the code. He kept it a secret until after the competition.

I wonder if the MTC members hate leg day and are projecting it onto the rules. I’m getting that impression.

I mean it was unlikely to get anything more than a B, so it was never going to count towards DV anyway.

What’s important is that it starts a discussion about artistry in mens floor. They absolutely need to have a similar deduction rubric for MAG. Half of the womens artistic deductions relate to body posture, footwork and extension, that are absolutely just as applicable to mens floor.

I completely disagree that “the window is closing” for Simone. Someone else pointed out that Dominique Dawes began her successful Olympic comeback journey in April of 2000 before the Olympics that summer…
But with her showing she still had some issues with skills after Tokyo
What do you mean by this?

In the other thread, it’s been discussed whether Simone will be happy with her coming back with watered-down skills. If she goes that route, then sure, she could come back in April 2024 and throw together serviceable TF routines. But if she’s looking to get back on top, she’ll need more time. She was still having issues with the twisties immediately post-Tokyo and we haven’t seen anything from her since then, so either side is pure speculation on where she is physically and mentally. She literally just said she’s still working on her mental health which could mean any number of things when it comes to returning to competition. Is she trying to return to a competitive mindset, does she still have a mental block with her skills (i.e., the twisties), is she trying to reconcile dealing with USAG again, is she weighing returning to competition against enjoying time wedding planning and as a newlywed, etc.

Biles could also specialize and do vault only. or vault and one more event.
Chiles, Carey, Jones, and McClain can take care of the rest. Not to mention that Suni will be back in 2023 and 2024.
Plenty of options not that 5-4-3 and 5-3-3 are back for Paris.

I would give Suni a spot purely on the basis of her being a UB/BB specialist who can also do AA. If Simone specializes, it would most likely be FX in addition to VT, and then she’s battling Carey, Jones, and Chiles for a spot as opposed to being the center the team is built around.

She posted videos earlier this year doing double doubles on tramp and she didn’t appear lost. I’d say it’s something she could work through if she wants to get back to, say, double double and full twisting DLO on FX. Maybe the Biles II should be shelved. But obviously it would all be up to her.

I think last year she was running out of steam already and the extra pressure made her body say enough. I think if she wants to go back to the Olympics she should take as much time as possible. And don’t get caught in that “there’s no time to rest” nonsense that was happening before Tokyo.

So spencer on gymcastic said that jades roll onto beam mount now satisfies the turn CR on beam. Is that right? I thought roll mounts didn’t count?

I heard that too and was surprised. I don’t see why a forward roll should fulfill a turn requirement - seems like a can of worms. Does a Valdez, handstand pirouette, full twisting back salto, jump full turn, rulfova, or kotchetkova also fulfill the turn requirement??

Yes, the CR now reads as Turn or Rolls/Flairs, and 1.207 / the forward roll mount is listed as an element that fulfills the requirement.

I can see everyone who doesn’t have a Triple Wolf Turn now mounting with a forward roll mount.

But on a serious note, if that is the case, why on earth is Jade also doing an A full turn.

^^ HA! I just watched the video and was about to ask the same thing!

She’s been doing the roll mount since last quad. Perhaps the NT staff failed to relay the update to her and Brian?

On Gymcastic Spencer said that he theorizes that Carey is still doing the full turn to help get her from one end of the beam to the other since her choreography is so bad that by doing a full turn they avoid an artistry deduction with Jade trying to dance or leap her way to the end of the beam, both of which would incur deductions.

There is no way. She would just do some steps forward! A full turn is so risky to just move forward a bit!

I largely agreed with this. Except I would deduct legs on the Aerial, I’d give an extra tenth on Artistry (complexity) and I wouldn’t give a 3 for the step on the dismount.
