I guess the question other than who is planning on doing the event, is who do we want to do the events and get a spot? Anyone from Belgium or Germany? Anyone who missed out this week at PanAms? Anyone from SE Asia who hasn’t yet qualified?

I think Germany has already achieved the max of 3 spots for countries that didn’t qualify a full team.

Here are the countries for WAG that have achieved the max number of spots, either full team or 3 individual spots:
USA
Great Britain
Canada
China
Brazil
Italy
Netherlands
France
Japan
Australia
Romania
South Korea
Germany
Hungary
Mexico

These countries can earn additional spots. The number of spots they currently have are in parentheses.
Algeria (1)
Portugal (1)
Philippines (1)
Ukraine (1)
Switzerland (1)
Panama (1)
South Africa (1)
Czechia (1)
Israel (1)
Slovenia (1)
Indonesia (1)
Spain (2)
Colombia (1)

Germany, Hungary, and Mexico all have 2 named spots and one unassigned, right? Like, they can’t take Moreno’s spot and give it to a teammate…unless she is injured?

Moreno and Sandoval are both nominative. If either gets injured and cannot compete, Mexico loses the spot, they cannot reassign it to whomever. Then FIG would reallocate it to the next gymnast in line in the AA and UB respectively.
The Mexico +1 earned by the team is non-nominative and can be issued to any gymnast Mexico chooses.

Same goes for Germany and South Korea. The two nominative spots cannot be redistributed within the federation.

So for Germany, Voss and Schafer are locked.
Germany will have the difficulty of naming the 3rd athlete. Seitz would be the most sensible pick should she be healthy due to medal potential on bars. But also Malewski is another gymnast with medal potential on beam. In the AA Helen Keveric is eligible to compete senior next year, so she might be an option.

Unfortunate for Germany that they just missed qualifying.
A team of Voss, Keveric, Malewski, Seitz, Schafer would likely make team finals in Paris and as a result would be a medal contender.

Crazy that we are in the day and age with WAG that if you qualify to team finals you CAN win a medal. Last three Worlds the 8th place team, just barely qualifying ended up with the team bronze!

Oof, well, i’ll add prayers for knees, ankles, and achillies to my list! It would suck for a federation to lose earned spots due to injuries or illness (but good that there isn’t a way to play political games and take away someone’s named spot and give it to a more favored gymnast)

Was the whole vault final chaos from worlds and it’s impact on Olympic qualifying ever sorted out?

Nope. Bacskay gets the vault spot (which should have been Sandoval)
Szekely loses the bars spot but that goes to Sandoval.

So only one gymnast screwed and because it is the same federation, I doubt Hungary will put up a fuss.
Imagine is Bacskay screwed over another country though? They would be PISSED.

Hungary has the +1 but whether or not Kovacs can return in time healthy is a big question, otherwise I can’t see anyone else going but Szekely.
