It is much harder for overseas student athletes to transfer, because the study visa is attached to the school. But it’s not impossible- Lucy Stanhope transferred.

I wonder for Ondine, if being able to fly home easily/more affordably is a priority too

I was so excited for her to go to Cal. So disappointed for her now everyone seems to be leaving. The east coast would certainly be easier to travel.

east coast is only easier if there’s a direct flight. If there isn’t, then it’s overall longer than SF to London direct

They don’t really, you have to get to the nearest major city first.

You can get to Hartsfield Airport from Auburn or Georgia in about 1:30-45. Florida to Orlando International is about 1:30-45 drive. I wouldnt consider those excessively challenging. Especially when you consider bay area traffic, you still are looking at least 45 minutes travel to SFO. But thats just me.

Europeans would consider having to drive 90+ minutes just to access the airport an unreasonably long time!

Berkley to SFO can at least be done on public transit.

You can get to Hartsfield Airport from Auburn or Georgia in about 1:30-45. Florida to Orlando International is about 1:30-45 drive. I wouldnt consider those excessively challenging. Especially when you consider bay area traffic, you still are looking at least 45 minutes travel to SFO. But thats just me.

Yeah, no British person is considering that easy or convenient.

I barely find that easy or convenient. I pay more for a flight to fly out of Dulles that's 15 minutes away from my house vs. BWI.

Who the heck knows, but I love how everyone (including me) seems to so easily project themselves, their biases, their own opinions on someone they dont even know. Just because YOU think its a horrible inconvenience doesnt mean someone else doesnt see it as not that big of a deal. I mean honestly, its not a far-fetched possibility for someone who only a couple times a year at most would make that flight. Weighed against a program in disarray, staring down the barrel of some lean final two years. Idk, does she goes back every weekend? Maybe since I grew up in a college town and driving an hour plus to get to the airport isnt that big of a deal. I have lived in NYC and it still took 45 minutes to an hour to get to La Guardia. Try doing JFK on public transit. Put it another way, in the list of items of why she wouldnt transfer to another school for her final two years, my bias says having a 1+ hour drive to an airport for a direct flight to london is pretty low. And for reference she is not from London but a small town an hour drive outside London.

It may not be an issue at all, but it’s something that overseas gymnasts in the ncaa have frequently mentioned as significant factor in deciding where they go to school.

We often speculate why gymnasts might choose a certain school, even though we’ve no idea what they’re thinking about what is almost always a multi factor decision. I don’t see how this is any different
